How is your life different than it would have been if you never received the transfer?
The clear information given by GiveDirectly officers before and during enrollment was so crucial that it gave me a good guide on spending. I ensured that I developed plans based on the household priorities. I could not ask for more after completion but keeps improving all that I have established. I am happy and thankful for all that's going on in my family at the moment and so far I don't have any new goal but to focus on the existing projects.
In your opinion, what does GiveDirectly do well, and what does it not do well?
GiveDirectly was fair in its operations both in our village and even in other villages in my opinion. Everyone was enrolled without any bias and given the same amount at the same time in both transfers. With the support that I got, I am grateful and wish the best in all other villages that it is yet to visit, The Approach was good and no one complains about it since we were first educated on the project details and expectations before enrollment.
What did you spend your most recent transfer(s) on?
Both my husband and I get out of the house every morning to our workplaces and back to the house late in the evening every day of the week and at times weekends. For the past few years, we had been struggling a lot balancing household chores that would always force us to pay someone to handle some tasks. In the recent past, we had been contemplating on sorting the water issue so that we could stop the huge spending on buying some liters every day. We finally decided to pull our savings together with the second transfer and purchased a large plastic water tank holding 10000 liters when full at KES 75000. Reaching an agreement on this decision was not easy since we had to sacrifice all other projects that we would have invested the money on and brought the water storage facility that we hope to still serve us for more than 10 years to come. I am grateful to GiveDirectly that made this dream a reality. We are now enjoying plenty supply of water at our doorstep both for the livestock and the household usage.

Describe the moment when you received your money. How did you feel?
The moment I received the transfer I felt so happy. I remember it was around 9:08 am. I was at my shop doing some cleaning when I heard a message tone from my phone. I reluctantly check it out. I could not believe my eyes, it was a message confirming that I have received money from GiveDirectly. I felt so happy because I knew I would be able to add stock to my agro-vet business. I immediately inform my spouse and he was so happy too. We went and withdrew the money that day.
Describe the biggest difference in your daily life since you started receiving payments from GiveDirectly.
The biggest difference in my life is that I have fenced my compound. We are business people and we are not always at home. Our compound was not well fenced and our cows sometimes could destroy the crops. Employing a person to look after the cows is so expensive. There was always posibily of our neighbors destroying our crops. We were so worried about this but we didn't had the money to buy the wire for fencing. When I received the transfer from GiveDirectly I felt so happy because I knew I would be able to buy the fencing materials. We have fenced the compound. We are no longer worried about the cows. We have peace of mind to do our business and expand more. We have devoted much of our time to work and save some money for other projects and for school fees for our children. We are so grateful for the support because GiveDirectly has changed our lives. Were it not GiveDirectly all this could not have been possible.
What did you spend your most recent transfer(s) on?
I spent KES 20,000 on purchasing wire and fenced my farm. I have always wanted to fence it but I didn't had the money. We are not always at home and we wanted our cows to be secured I also added stock to my agro-vet busknsss. This is where I get profits to meet all my basic household items. I am so happy because I was able to stock all the demands of my customers. GiveDirectly has changed our living standards and are so grateful for the support.

What does receiving this money mean to you?
My First born daughter is joining university this year 2021 while my second born daughter just joined a national Girls high school.I am so excited because I know empowering a girl is empowering a nation.Receiving this money means they will go to school without being sent home for school fees and a bright future for them.Their total school fees is KES 90,000 per year which we struggle to get in time as we majorly depend on agro vet business for income which is not reliable.
What is the happiest part of your day?
Morning is the happiest part of my day.I wake up as early as 5.00 pm to prepare my son to go to school and then leave to open my agro vet business. It is at this time that I usually have a lot of customers to serve and this makes me start my day well.
What is the biggest hardship you've faced in your life?
Imagine owning 10 acres of land without doing anything productive with it due to poor weather conditions. Living in a semi-arid area has been a challenge as crops do not do well and keeping livestock too is tasking. When the rains fail there is no water and pasture in this area, cows grow thin thus producing less milk. We have to buy a bale of hay at KES 400 per day which is very expensive as we do not have a stable source of income
