"I schooled up to technical level college. I did an artisan course in Electrical engineering. My ambition was to further my studies but because of lack of enough school fees I didn't continue. I have been passionate about engineering and my wish was to study it up to diploma level but it didn't materialize. My siblings were schooling too and therefore the scarce resources couldn't keep all of at school at the same time."

"Raising a family bis a big challenge. It needs a sustainable source of income. I have been struggling to pay school fees for my children. Almost all the money I get go towards paying school fees and that is the reason I have not been able to build a better house."

"When I receive this money, I will buy an heifer costing $200 which will help me earn income through production and sale of milk in future. I will use $400 to pay school fees for my children for the next two years which will make me have some rest from struggling to find schooll fees and now focus on my developmental activities such as farming. I will then budget $200 to buy a plastic water tank to enable me harvest rain water. The remaining $200 will go to food and clothings."

"I have heard and seen great things that people have done with the money they received from GiveDirectly. Receiving this money mean a lot to me and my family. I would want to spend $350 to buy a cow since the one I have was given to us by my brother to take care of it and to support my big family. I will use $80 to buy two sheep as asset, pay $100 as school fees for my daughter in secondary school and with the remaining amount, I will ensure that I have secured enough cereals for my family."

"I am a divorced woman with a family of eight children. I have two children who are solely depending on me for school fees. One is in class two and the other is in form one. Paying their school fees has really been a challenge since I depend on charcoal burning business which is illegal, but I have no option since it is the only job that earns me some money. I also face a lot of rejection from my sisters in law since I am a returnee. This pains my heart so much. I intend to use the cash transfer from GiveDirectly to pay my children's school fees. I will also buy a three acre piece of land that will cost around $300. This will relieve me from the ridicules I get from the sisters in law. Receiving this money therefore means access to education for my children and owning my own piece of land for my family."

"Receiving this money means I will pay school fees for my two children . My two sons both are in form three at the nearby secondary school and I am facing problems in sourcing for their school fees .I have fee arrears of 26,000 shillings which I need to clear before the end of this term and pay next term's fees which is 15,000 shillings. In total, I am planning to spend 50, 000 shillings on my children school fees, planning to spend 20,000 to renovate my house and buy two oxen to plough my one acre piece of land which my deceased husband left me with. I am very sure if I get two oxen and a plough I will have eradicated food shortages in my house. I will buy two oxen worth 30, 000 shillings and a plough costing 9,000 shillings . The remaining amount I will buy more stock in my chapati business so that it can expand and feed my children."

"Receiving this money means that I will be able to purchase a dairy cow. Our desire has been to purchase one but we have not afforded because of financial instability. I work as vegetable vendor in near by small centre, weekly I can earn around 1500 shillings as my profit. This only caters for family basic needs and school fees for my 2 children in secondary level and 2 others in primary level. God willing if we received these transfers we will fulfill our desire to own a daily cow worth 40,000 shillings. The rest of the amount we use to expand the small business I have and pay schools fees."

"My ambition is to be able to finish studying. I was studying a course in community health at a nearby college but had to take a break last year because of lack of school fees to finish my exam.I'm now a casual labourer earning $50 per month which is not enough to pay for my school fees. I will use $150 to pay for my exam,$30 to build a better house and use the remaining amount to start farming of maize and beans."

"Little income compared to my needs is what has been my biggest hardship. I am teacher and my spouse is a driver. We have been supporting other relatives especially in their education. Currently I have a sister in law that I pay school fees for. I have three children of my own who are also in school."
