"Goat rearing is something that I had started but could not continue well due to financial problems. It does well compared to dairy farming given the dry climatic conditions in this area. Receiving this money will therefore help me add 5 more goats to the little that I have. My budget is approximately 20,000 Kenya Shillings. When I sell the goats after they multiply, they will help me cater for other needs especially school fees."

"Receiving this means food security in my family. This is because I do farming on a half-acre of land the much I harvest is 50kgs maize that sustains my family of 7 for 2 weeks only. I am planning to spend KES 40000 to buy oxen and ox plough which will enable me to upscale my farming to 10acres of land to produce more harvest utmost 15 bags of maize to sustain us for 18 months. The remaining amount of my first transfer will cater to household expenses like food. My second transfer will help me pay school fees for my children in secondary school. This will allow them to settle in school and hence improve their performance in school."

"Receiving this money means food security to my household. This is because I do farming on a half-acre of land and the much I harvest is only a 50kgs bag of maize that sustains my family of 2 for 1 and a half months. I am planning to spend KES 40000 of my first transfer to buy oxen and an oblong which will enable me to upscale my farming to produce more harvest up to 10 bags of 90kg bags of maize to sustain for more than a year. The remaining amount of my first transfer, I will use to buy a new bed and mattress to replace the old ones which do not give me nice sleep. I will further spend KES 21000 of my second transfer to buy 10 goats that will act as a long-term investment project for my household. For the remaining amount of my second transfer, I will pay school fees for my grandchildren in secondary school."

"Receiving this money means education for my children. My children have been out of school and the biggest challenge has been the inability to pay their school fees. My husband was taken to prison in 2020 and since then I have been struggling alone with the children. I am planning to use KES 70,000 to cater for the education of my children. This will enable them have enough study time in school and this will finally translate to improved academic performance. I will use the balance to buy one pair of ox-plough valued at KES 30,000 for farming so as to improve on my farm production. Doing this will make me a happy woman because this is what I have always desired to do."

"Receiving this money means building a spacious house for my family. I am a mother of four children and we are all living in a one bedroom house. It lacks privacy. I will build a two bedroom house which will cost 55000 KES. I will also use 40000 KES to buy goats as investment and also use the remaining 15000 KES to pay school fees for my children."

Wesley
received a $500 initial payment.
"I was glad after receiving the first transfer as I had quite a lot of plans lined up awaiting any incoming money. With my family of four, we had been fully dependent on the small chicken selling business that that was not consistent providing for us as the income kept fluctuating with seasons. On receiving this transfer, I had to expand it by injecting KES 10000 into it and obtained more chickens and eggs to sell. I was intending to save KES 20000 out of the transfer towards a project we needed to start early next year but instead, we decided to obtain a heifer with the same avoiding the risk of spending the amount on other unplanned projects. I also bought two sheep each at KES 5000, paid KES 5000 school fees for my grade 4 son, and the remaining KES9000 on obtaining enough foodstuff and other household goods that we had been using since we received the money."

"The biggest hardship I have faced is financial constraints. I am the breadwinner in my family and the casual jobs that I do is hardly enough to meet all the basic needs and moreso school fees and levies for my children in high school. I have been struggling to make ends meet as the KES 200 per day I earn is just hand to mouth."

"Receiving this money means I can start my own restaurant business! I work in one here, where I earn about KES 200 per day. This income is barely sufficient to provide food for my family.Starting my own means that I will earn about KES 1000 on a good day. Other than providing for my family I will be able to pay school fees for children in various schools.I will therefore spend about KES 15000 on this initiative. Further, I will buy a dairy cow at KES 30,000, that will add about KES 100 per day to my income. I will comfortably start to meet my needs using the money GiveDirectly irectly will help me to start making."
