How is your life different than it would have been if you never received the transfer?
My life has really changed now since I very happy and fulfilled. I have a big shop that has almost all the commodities that are needed and this has attracted quite a number of customer hence bringing enormous profits. Unlike before I could spend almost the whole day without selling anything since most of what was asked for was not stocked in my shop and this really used to stress me alot. I am very certain about a bright future since I have some cows that will also start generating income soon hence will help to save more for my children schooling. The stressful days are over, all of my projects are up and running and am very much proud of my accomplishments through GiveDirectly transfers.
In your opinion, what does GiveDirectly do well, and what does it not do well?
uplifting the peoples living standards by giving unconditional transfers is one of the most amazing thing that Give Directly did. That part where one had to make own decisions on how to spend this transfers really helped since everyone had different needs and ideas and I really congratulate you on this. I have not seen anything like this ever hence cant have any negative ideas about it
What did you spend your most recent transfer(s) on?
I spent my transfers in buying 2 heifers worth 46000 KES. This heifers will really help in future when they start producing milk since some will be used for family use and sell the rest hence generating more income while making us live healthy. I will also sell its offsprings when need arises mostly to salvage school fees for my children. The rest of the transfers I used it to boast my shop business therefore ensuring that their is a continuous flow of cash in my home.

What does receiving this money mean to you?
We have been struggling to educate our four school-going children yet we don't have a constant source of income. I have two who are in secondary school and two in primary level. My ambition has been to give my children better education and fulfill their dreams. We have two dairy cows and we milk 5 liters a day. Out of this, we take 2 liters to the nearby school to cater for my 2 children who are in primary level. We are planning to add one more dairy cow and increase the amount of milk to cater to school expenses. We intend to spend Ksh 20,000 of the first transfer to buy one and the remaining cash, we will use to improve our small shop business. Realizing this dream will be a stepping stone in our life.
What is the happiest part of your day?
I spend my morning hours working in our 1.5 pieces of land either weeding, planting, or digging. I spend my afternoon hours in our small shop which is only 200 meters away until late in the evening. I feel more relaxed and happy in the evening after my school-going children are back from school. This is the time we have together as I assist them in doing their assignments which fulfill my duties as a parent.
What is the biggest hardship you've faced in your life?
Financial constraints have been the biggest hardship we have faced in life. We have 3 acres of land in which we have grown maize solely for domestic use since it is less productive. Out of these 3 acres of land, we cultivate 1.5 acres; we normally harvest 5 bags, and thus no surplus for sale. We entirely depend on maize to cater to the family yet there is no much we get out of it.
