Chebet
received a $427 second payment.
"In the coming year and beyond, I hope to purchase a quarter of an acre of land where I would build my home. At the moment, I am forced to rent which is very costly. Additionally, I intend to purchase one dairy cow which will provide readily available milk for the family. Similarly, I would like to take the extra milk to the milk cooler station where to earn extra income."

Winny
received a $442 initial payment.
"I am a cook at a nearby school and my husband is a farmer. Together, we have four children. Upon receipt of my first transfer, my husband and I thought of investing in agriculture. This was what we were best at. Though, cultivation of a bigger land can be expensive. Therefore we used $250 for planting maize. Secondly, I bought a dairy cow worth $120 and lastly I used $100 on farm equipment and bought food with the remaining amount. This was not possible before because we used all the resources that we had in treating our child, but unfortunately succumbed. It was heartbreaking but we had no choice but to be strong. I am so grateful for the support that brought so much happiness to our lives through financial support."

received a $427 second payment.
"In my opinion, GiveDirectly is a life-changing organization. It came to uplift us from the poverty situation we were into another level where we also see ourselves as human beings. I strongly support cash transfer because it makes people choose their preferences rather than being imposed to do things they are not desperate for. Although it is unfortunate that the cows I bought as an investment died of drought but still I am grateful that I received the support."

Katsuheni
received a $427 second payment.
"I aim to invest in livestock specifically goats. I chose goats over cows because goats can survive without water for a longer time compared to cows. Again they are cheap to maintain and they have read markets since they are affordable and thus can be converted to monetary value anytime the need arises. Through this investment, I will be able to sustain my family without straining."

Agnes
received a $427 second payment.
"My husband has long worked as a mason, despite us not having built our own home. The funds from GiveDirectly were then quickly funneled towards construction of a three bedroom house ,complete with verandah. It is more than sufficient for a still-growing family such as ours. It currently consists of our 3 year, 6 month old son, myself and my husband. While my husband earns $25 per day from his toils, it isn't nearly enough to sustain us, seeing as I don't work myself. As a result, I purchased a male and female cow for breeding as well as five local breed chickens, to supplement what I grow for domestic use on our five acres of land. My main crops are Maize, cassava, and local cereals are primarily what I grow. Without GiveDirectly stepping in, we would have been living one day at a time."
