received a $500 initial payment.
"I spent part of my transfer on buying beddings such as a new bed and mattress at a total of KES 15000. For all those years I have been using the traditional beds made of ropes which were very uncomfortable. I could always complain of back pains. I am glad because this will soon come to an end. Also, I bought pieces of iron sheets, building poles, threads, timber, and nails KES 20000. This was for the construction of a new house because the initial one was very small and in a very poor state. My family is composed of five members and therefore some of my children had to seek shelter at their grandmother's house. I later gave the labor KES 5000. In addition, I cleared school fees (KES 2000) for my two children who are in primary school since they were on and off because of the arrears. To do that I bought one goat that will now serve as the living asset that I can rely on. With the remaining amount of money, I am using it to buying enough foodstuffs for my family that would sustain us for a couple of days"

received a $500 initial payment.
"With a relatively larger family of seven, it has been so hard buying every household utility enough for everyone. For the past years, I had been spending a lot on milk from the neighborhood since I have never had a cow of my own. On receiving the first transfer, pinching part of it to use in obtaining a heifer was inevitable. After days of scouting the breeds at the nearby market, I finally landed on a good one worth KES 20000. I was glad to learn that it was in the midst of its gestation period having barely 3 months left before calving down. I was also torn between renovating the old house I had been using but we agreed with my husband to start planning the construction of a new one. So far we have been able to obtain 96 timber and some building posts that cost approximately KES 20000 of the remaining amount. We are currently looking forward to the next transfer to make iron sheets purchase and initiate the construction work. Out of my 5 children, two of them are currently in their final year in secondary school. School fees clearance has been mandatory to enable them to settle down and get ample time to prepare for their final paper. I had to spend the remaining KES 14000 on clearing their school fees, and currently, they have settled and working their way hard in their studies."

Kelong
received a $500 initial payment.
"After receiving the transfer, I have witnessed a great transformation in my household marked by impressive changes at every point of our expense. The biggest difference though is the newly constructed house, spacious enough and stronger than the previous one since its walls are wooden, unlike the previous one that was made of mud. I am grateful to be done with the construction, and for the next 10 years, I will be working on other projects that would have been competing with the plans to construct. It is even easier to currently plan for our son's schooling program as that is the only point pushing us to start saving to ease his school fees payment when he joins."

"Receiving means food security to my household since I plan to upscale my farming. This is because I always till only one acre of land using a hoe and the much produce I normally harvest is two 90kgs bags of maize that sustain my family of six of only two months. I am planning to spend the utmost KES 40000 of my first transfer to buy oxen and an ox plough which will enable me to till my 6 acres of land. This will ensure me getting more harvest of twelve 90kgs bags of maize that will sustain my family of six for almost a year. I will further use the remaining amount of my first transfer to buy a new bed and mattress to replace the old ones that do not give me a nice sleep. With my second transfer, I will spend KES 25000 to construct a separate structure for my orphan grandchildren to whom I share a house with. For the remaining amount, I will pay school fees for a year of my grandchild in secondary school."

"Receiving this money means better shelter for me and my family. I have always wanted a decent house where I can comfortably host visitors. My house is only one tiny room. I do not have any privacy since my visitors can see everything in my house. My seven year old daughter will soon need her privacy. My budget for the house is approximately KES 30,000. I will also use the KES 15,000 to buy 4 goats. Goat keeping is a good investment for my future needs especially paying school fees once they increase in number."

"Education for my children is my priority. It hurts to see them out of school more often because of accumulated fee arrears. This year, I failed to enroll my son in secondary school and it pains me. I have decided to end this situation by finding an alternative source of income. These transfers will provide sustainable capital for my vegetable business, which I started recently, with the help of 500 KES from a neighbour. I will strive to save from it and raise their school fees."

"I was a student at a nearby technical institute. I did certificate in building construction and technology, but due to lack of school fees i dropped out. Since then I have been doing casual jobs in Olerai Farm. I am paid 300 KES per day. This money I am paid is enough only for my up keep. So when I get this money I would like to clear school fees so that I can get certificate. The school owes me KES 33000. This certificate will help me get a better job with better pay."

"My biggest hardship was lack of school fees. I lost my father when I was still in primary school. I was raised by a single parent which was difficult for her to provide to us and at the same time to be a parent. If my father was a live, I would have been a doctor by now."

We also used KES 30,600.00 to buy 34 pieces of Dumuzaz iron sheets, we also paid labour charges to the contractor, and we bought 3 she-goats and as at now one goat gave birth. Having done that, we bought some food stuffs for the family. And the remaining amount to take us through for some time in the daily upkeep in terms of buying some food."

"When I got the money message, I was bereaving my co-wife who had just passed on. My helper is the one who informed me of the transfer message.
I felt so excited and happy; in fact I felt condoled and strengthened since I knew I have somewhere to start from as far as the death strike was concern. I was overwhelming since the assistance came just when I needed it most! You gave me hope when I thought hope was gone.
Initially things were bad, our living situation was pathetic, my shelter was not something to be proud of; no school fees, no food. My daughter-in-law family was stressing me up and I was sure one day they would come for their daughter and I would be left lonely with no one around me. But since the day I received your support am seeing life, there is hope. My family and I live in a good house not as before, instead of a nylon paper on the roof there are some iron sheets and my daughter-in-law is happy and am happy too having her around knowing that the loneliness is not there. Again am saying thank you Give Direct for having a greater positive impact in my life and family.
I lack words to tell you how much this has meant to me but we are touched by the generous heart you showed us; we thank you very much."
