How is your life different than it would have been if you never received the transfer?
For quite a while I had a dream to complete my house in order to offer the 'perfect' shelter for living in. I had to stall the process due to lack of enough capital, but with the GiveDirectly funds, I have been able to actualize it since I have been doing casual jobs that used to pay KES 200 daily which was not enough to complete the project. I have now been able to finish up my house. And moreso, keep saving since I have no wife nor kids.
In your opinion, what does GiveDirectly do well, and what does it not do well?
GiveDirectly has been providing help and ensuring that even the minimum wage person is able to uplift his or her life and that of the family in every aspect. I am very grateful for that.
What did you spend your most recent transfer(s) on?
With the amount received of KES 53150, I have been able to spend it wisely by using up KES 10000 to finish up my house construction ensuring I reside in the best shelter that I had always dreamt of. I was also able to purchase 2 milk cows at a total of KES 40000 to atleast keep providing milk for sale and in house consumption thereby mitigating the expense of purchasing milk daily. The remaining KES 3000, I bought food supplements to add to what was there already.

Describe the moment when you received your money. How did you feel?
I was at home and I was busy tethering the goats on the fields for them to graze. I heard my phone that I had placed in my pocket ringing. I pulled it out to check it and I could not believe my eyes when I saw the message telling me that I had received KES 55000 from GiveDirectly. I was so happy. I went on with what I was doing but my mind kept on pondering on how the transfer was going to transform my life.
Describe the biggest difference in your daily life since you started receiving payments from GiveDirectly.
The biggest difference that the transfer has brought into my life is that I no longer have to worry about what I am to eat or wear whenever I lack a casual job to do. This is because I was able to buy some food that is going to last me for a while and some clothes with part of the money that I got.
What did you spend your most recent transfer(s) on?
I spent most of the money that I got from GiveDirectly in buying ten goats which were going at a cost of KES 4000 each. I decided to settle on buying the goats because I wanted to invest on something that was going to help me in the future. The goats are going to multiply and when they do, I will sell some of them and use the money on other developments such as buying a cow. I was not able to make such an investment before due to lack of money. I usually depend on casual jobs of farming where I am paid KES 300 per day. These casual jobs are not always available and at times I do not have anything to do. The little money that I make is not enough to make any developments and I usually spend most of it in buying food and clothes. I am therefore so much grateful to GiveDirectly for the help that they have given to me. May God bless you.

What does receiving this money mean to you?
I was a student at a nearby technical institute. I did certificate in building construction and technology, but due to lack of school fees i dropped out. Since then I have been doing casual jobs in Olerai Farm. I am paid 300 KES per day. This money I am paid is enough only for my up keep. So when I get this money I would like to clear school fees so that I can get certificate. The school owes me KES 33000. This certificate will help me get a better job with better pay.
What is the happiest part of your day?
The happiest part of my day is in the evening. This is the time I get to rest after tiresome day.
What is the biggest hardship you've faced in your life?
The biggest hardship has been lack of money. I should have cleared college 5 months ago where I was anticipating to get a good job. But because of lack of money I am just casual worker even after working hard in school hoping for a better future.
