"As a way to curb the financial crisis my family of 4 is facing currently, I intend on using $200 of the transfers to purchase a dairy cow. From the milk produced, I will be able to feed my family as well as sell the surplus to earn income which I will often use to pay school fees for my children. For the additional transfers, I will stock 2 bags of maize, 20kgs of beans and household goods to last my household the next harvest. I will be delighted that my family will be both financially stable and good food secure."

"I plan to build a big house and a kitchen worthy USD810 which us sleep comfortably and also cook from a comfortable place hence living good life.
I also plan to expand on the plot of land I have by buying another a plot of land where I stay and this will cost me USD540 which will help us cultivate more and raise enough food for the family.
Then the balance of USD 540 will help buy a dairy cow and building a kiral so that it stay well in order to grow very fast and produce milk that will reduce on the burden of care in the family because shall be taking milk and selling some to meet basic needs."

"The biggest difference in my daily life is a renewed hope of soon having a plentiful supply of milk from the dairy cow I purchased. Aside from selling Napier grass to other farmers, I hope to sell surplus milk as an additional source of income. Despite the fact that I am still living alone, I believe that selling a few liters daily will provide an additional source of income."

"Receiving money is a special blessing and it feels so good that I will be able to accomplish all I ever wanted, I have plans of securing land in Bubulo in a safe place because when it rains the soil becomes soggy and our houses get too cold with water coming from the soil which affects our health and most nights we are unable to sleep with fear of being flashed away by the waters.
I would also like to buy a cow worthy $1764 so I will be able to get milk from it , I also plan to give my father in law some money $135 so he can use it to take care of himself ."

"After the experience I got from the first transfer which came as a surprise, I planned before the second phase. Upon getting the second transfer, I made up my mind to invest in livestock farming. I opted for this because I realized livestock farming is cheap to maintain and has security, unlike a shop where one can run at a loss if people take goods on credit and fail to pay. Therefore, I bought a cow for $150 specifically for milk both for sale and for family use. I also bought five sheep for $130 and a goat for $30. I opted for sheep over goats because they have a higher value when it comes to selling and also they withstand harsh climatic conditions more than goats. And looking at our dry climatic conditions, it will serve the sheep better than the goats. In the line of investing, I also started poultry farming. I spent $200 to buy forty chicks specifically layers for egg production. I am happy that this business picked up well and it has been helping me in catering to my family's needs."

"While looking after my livestock in the field, I received a message on my phone at around 4 pm. I did not haste to check since the phone was in my hands. Upon checking, the first glance of the eye hit the figure of $550. I became keener and I realized that I had received the money from GiveDirectly. My heart melted at thanksgiving for receiving such a huge amount of money at once in my life. Due to the happiness that engulfed my heart, I spent the rest of the day dancing in the field while grazing my five cows and eight goats."

"When I withdrew the money, I opted to demolish the house I had to construct a nice one since it was on the verge of collapsing. Therefore, I spent around $150 on constructing a mud-walled two-room house. I managed to use little amount because I did most of the construction by myself to reduce the cost. Apart from the poles and rafters which I sourced myself from the forest, I bought eight iron sheets for $60. These iron sheets were just an addition to the ones I removed from the house I demolished. Currently, the house is complete and I am happy that I sleep in a secure house unlike before. I also spent $240 to buy seven goats. I opted to buy a high number of goats since I wanted to start livestock farming. The reason for choosing goats over cows is that they withstand the harsh climatic condition of our area. Not only withstanding drought but also they are cheap to purchase and maintain as well as easily convertible to monetary value due to their ready markets. For the remaining amount, I used $100 to take my son to a driving college and bought a mattress for $54 since I used to sleep on the floor."

"Investing in rental houses is what has been my main mission. Upon getting the second transfer, I used $200 to construct a mud-walled two-room rental house because the place I stay is strategic. I stay near a secondary school and students need accommodation. Currently, I am happy because the rooms are already occupied by tenants and I am assured of getting rental money at the end month, This is enabling me to sustain my family. Thereafter, I opted to invest by buying a cow that will in the future produce milk both for sale and for family use. For the remaining amount, I opted to keep it for the family's upkeep in terms of buying food and other emergencies."

"The most pressing need I had was to construct a decent home for my family. This was because the one I had was small and grass-thatched. Unfortunately, because I am a widow with five children to look after, this was not previously possible. I am currently unable to work due to my age. As a result, when I received my first transfer, I spent $400 building the house. Secondly, I spent $150 on a dairy cow to reduce the cost of purchasing milk. I will be eternally grateful for the support I received from GiveDirectly."
