"When I receive this money, I will use some to build a new house, pay my children school fees and use the balance to start a business to sustain my family which will bring smiles to my family. I am a farmer and a palm cuter, which is solely my only source of income but it's not really enough to cover my family needs. My children are going to school and I have to do some contracts sometimes to help pay their fees. Where I currently live with my family is a thatch house. When rain starts to fall, we find it difficult to control things. If I receive this money, it's my plan to definitely build a new house and start a business."

"When I receive this cash transfer, I will use some to build my own house, send my children to school and use the balance to start a business in order to sustain my family to bring some joy within my family. I make farm to cater to my kids and some family relatives but the money generated from the farm is only used to get food for the farm. My children are not going to school now because the money I earned from farming can not meet every needs and school fees. The house I live in is not my own and I had to pay monthly rent of one thousand Liberian dollars ($1000) and when the month is coming to end, I am always worried. If I receive this cash transfer I will build my own house, send my kids to better school and start a business."

"I am a trained teacher by profession, though I am still waiting for the government placement, we had started building a house in the village but it was incomplete due to inadequate funds, the cost of building a house currently is high due to the high cost of living. therefore when I received my transfer I used KES 30,000 in building a house, I then used KES 6000 in paying the school fees arrears of my two children, lastly, I saved up the rest of the remaining money for any miscellaneous in the construction of the house, I am so grateful for the support."

"The biggest difference in my daily life is that I currently have an alternative reliable source of income for my family during the farming season as I am now a proud owner of a pair of oxen. I will be using this income to pay school fees for my children and to meet our basic needs. Owning this pair will also enable me to practice timely cultivation that will lead to increased yields and higher returns as I will be spending less on the input since I will not be incurring the cost of hiring a tractor for land preparation and planting purposes. I am grateful and happy that I have been able to achieve this goal and I will forever remain indebted to GiveDirectly for enabling me to achieve this."

"Even though we are enjoying our daily consumption of milk and taking three meals a day unlike before, owning a dairy cow is the biggest difference in my daily life. This is because I will be able to pay school fees for my children on time using the income that I will be getting through the sale of milk once it reproduces. Also, it is an asset that I can rely on when faced with financial challenges as I can easily convert it to cash. This would not have been possible had I not received the transfer and I am so grateful for it."

"If I'm successful to receive this transfer, I will use some to build my own house, start a business inorder to sustain my family and pay school fees for my three children in secondary School. Three (3) out of six (6) of my children have been out of school for one year due to financial constraints. Even though I make farm to cater to my family, but the money I earned is not enough to send all my six children to school and build my own house. The money I earned from the farm is what I spend on food and pay three of my children school fees. The structure I live in is my spouse grandfather house, the family is insisting that we leave the house. I want to build my own house and send my three children back to school but there's no money."

"With the current high cost of living, buying milk from the neighborhood alongside other household needs had been so expensive. It has been my prayer that I will be able to also own a cow one day so that I could cut the cost of buying milk. On receiving the transfer, I was glad to come into agreement with my husband to spend KES24000 on obtaining a heifer. Even though it is not giving us milk yet, I am happy that I am hoping to soon produce some milk when it calved down. We also extended our investment in livestock by buying a sheep at KES4000 as we needed to save on an asset that will help us in the future when raising school fees for our children. We also needed a different kitchen after using a single house that served the dual purpose of a kitchen and a living room. It was always full of smoke since firewood is the main source of fuel in our household. I managed to obtain 12 iron sheets each at KES890. The construction is currently on, and hopeful to transfer all the kitchenware to the new construction as soon as it is complete. With the remaining amount, I managed to settle a debt of KES4000 in the nearby shop, paid for some building poles that I will soon be ferrying home to help in the construction work, and also settle the medical bill I had in the immediate clinic as I needed more medication both for my child and me. I am grateful for all that has transpired since I received the transfer and hoping to even do more when I finally receive the remaining transfer."

"The biggest difference in my life is that I have fenced my compound. We are business people and we are not always at home. Our compound was not well fenced and our cows sometimes could destroy the crops. Employing a person to look after the cows is so expensive. There was always posibily of our neighbors destroying our crops. We were so worried about this but we didn't had the money to buy the wire for fencing. When I received the transfer from GiveDirectly I felt so happy because I knew I would be able to buy the fencing materials. We have fenced the compound. We are no longer worried about the cows. We have peace of mind to do our business and expand more. We have devoted much of our time to work and save some money for other projects and for school fees for our children. We are so grateful for the support because GiveDirectly has changed our lives. Were it not GiveDirectly all this could not have been possible."

"The biggest difference in my daily life is that I have build an extension room for my children. The construction is on going. We live in a small house which cannot host all my family members comfortably. I depend on small scale farming, I sell groceries, the amount of money that I get through this is so small and only for meeting additional basic household items. My spouse is a masonry. He does his work whenever there are contracts available. The money that he gets is for school fees for our children. We had no extra money to buy the building materials. Our children sleep in the kitchen house. Since there are so many activities in the kitchen they were being disturb from doing their homework. Currently the construction is on going, when it's completed they will have a spacious room where they can do their assignment without being disturbed. We are so grateful for the support because his was always our wishes and it's being fulfilled already. We have now peace of mind to do other activities without being stress up like before."
