"I used to have goats here at my home, but the number was growing so fast that I couldn't keep them in my kitchen any more. I needed to have a separate structure for them but it was too expensive for me. So I decided to give them to people under agreements of some sort. At the moment, I'm planning to spend the first transfer to build that and bring back my goats. This will require $300 for both materials and labor cost. If possible I will also extend my kitchen so that I practice poultry farming on one side of it. And lastly, I also want to connect piped water to my home to help me with watering my animals. This may take $150 as per my estimation."

"Since this transfer aims at improving people's lives, I hope that my family of 7 will see some impact from it. I intend on using KES 60000 to put up a salon business in Kambi ya Moto where my husband currently works as a carpenter hence being close to each other as we collaboratively share household responsibilities. We will be able to cut down on expenses incurred if we are far from each other thence save for the school fees and food for the household. For the additional transfers, I will be glad to venture into watermelon and butternut farming because the profits are double the expenses."

"I plan to do an investment. After doing some study, I decided to open a grocery store because, as a result of the protracted drought, veggies are hard to come by in our village. Since people go a distance in quest of vegetables, I am confident that doing this would result in strong sales. I'll be able to provide for my family's necessities thanks to this enterprise. I aim to start a vegetable garden close to my house in addition to purchasing and selling veggies because there is access to swamp water nearby that I hope to use for irrigation. As a result, buying veggies for sale will be less expensive."

"My joy as a parent is to see my children sleeping under a worthy structure. This has not been the case for me because my children's house is grass-thatched and it's currently leaking when it rains. I plan to spend $300 of my first transfer to construct a decent house, hence, peaceful nights for them. The remaining $200 from my first disbursement will help me to install water pipes to my home to settle the water problem which I am currently going through. On the other hand, I intend to spend my second transfer ($500) to purchase a fertile piece of land where I can do serious farming to solve the food insecurity in my household. Hence, this is generally what receiving this money means to me."

"I lived in a small house that could not host all my family members comfortably. I have always wished to build a better house but I did not have enough money to buy some of the materials. I rely on dairy keeping project and I sell the milk at a cooler milk plant that our county government has constructed. The money that I get from the sales of milk is for household basic needs and school fees for my children. I was not in a position to purchase the building materials. Besides that, I am a tailor and I get a small income through this to meet the basic needs of my family. When I received the money from GiveDirectly I invested $450 in materials and paid the workers who constructed the house. I am so grateful because currently, I have a decent and spacious timber house. This was my dream house and I am so happy. GiveDirectly has enabled us to make this happen on time. Whenever I have visitors they have a place to sleep and even feel comfortable. With the remaining amount of money, I bought a water tank for storing clean water for domestic use. This is because we used to walk long distances to collect clean water. This was tedious and time-consuming. I am so grateful for the support because GiveDirectly has changed our living standards."

"I used $200 of the second transfer to purchase a water tank while another $100 was used to buy building materials for a poultry house that we are yet to start it's construction. Another $100 was used to buy and erect ceiling boards in a house that we had built when we received the second transfer. We then used the remaining amount to buy clothes for our children. For a long time, I had a desire of buying a water tank since we have always had water problems forcing us to travel for far too long distances in search of clean drinking water. I am so happy and grateful that we now have a water tank and that we will no longer have to struggle to get clean drinking water again."

The other challenge is when it rains i get worried because the house gets too cold for us , it seems like we are sleeping outside ."
