"I am a small scale dairy farmer while my husband is a primary school teacher. Before I was enrolled in the program, life was not easy as I used to cut napier grass with machete. Most of the feeds used to go on waste because, it required a lot of work and energy to cut the grass in to small consumables pieces which the cows could easy eat and I couldn't do this all by myself. Although my husband was working, he was not permanently employed by the government and his salary was very low. Therefore, he couldn't afford to buy napier grass machine cutter and he had responsibilities of paying school fees for our two children and I had responsibilities of providing the family with basic needs from the money that earn from selling milk. I spend spend $400 of my second transfer to buy napier grass machine cutter, $80 to buy household utensils and the balance to buy food for the family. Life has become much easier now and being a dairy farmer has become much fun."

"Receiving money from GiveDirectly was a divine blessing. This was an excellent opportunity for me to ensure that my money was spent wisely. I earn my living through casual jobs and farming, and I have eight children. As a result, I considered purchasing a dairy cow to reduce the cost of purchasing milk daily. As a result, I spent $300 on a dairy cow. Second, I used the remaining funds to finish my house, which had been left unfinished due to financial constraints, and buy clothes for my children. We will be eternally grateful for the assistance that raised our living standards and provided us with financial independence."

"So far, I am happy with what I have accomplished, though I would like to buy more cows. This would provide food security while also earning me at least an additional income. To realize this dream, my wife and I would focus on effectively managing what we have, which would multiply. We are extremely grateful for the financial support."

"I am hoping that this year I will invest in buying a couple of farm animals preferably goats since they're lesscostly as compared to cows. The reason behind this is so that in case I run into financial difficulty I can have a way out. I also intend to focus on nourishment since it is a challenge."

"I spent $200 to purchase gutters to assist in collecting enough rainwater for household consumption. Over the last 3 years, I have been struggling to walk long distances to get water for my family dispute being old. In addition, I spent $100 to boost my livestock rearing by purchasing addition one local dairy cow. This will increase the milk production for family use as well as sell extra litres of milk to get additional income for other needs like clothing. Furthermore, I used $13p to seek proper medical care for my spouse who had been suffering from a kidney problem for more than 5 years. Currently, I am happy that he is feeling well after the medication and waiting to undergo an operation. With the remaining amount, I bought enough food for the family."

"I am happy that GiveDirectly's cash program has allowed us to own assets and even invest. Apart from eradicating poverty in society, many people were able to purchase assets with their transfer. I am happy that my dream of having a cow and producing milk has come to pass. With the high cost of living combined with a high poverty rate in our area. This transfer came at the right time and helped us a lot but only scratched the surface of poverty in our homes. I wish that GiveDirectly will remember us with another project near future."

"I currently want to begin investing in livestock, mainly goat farming. I know it will take some time because I rely on part-time work to make ends meet, but with perseverance and good money management, I will succeed. Even though I would love to start with a cow, there is not much money that can be saved, therefore it will not be possible. As a result, investing in goats will lead to me eventually purchasing a cow."

"The transfers came as a huge enabler to me and my family. We were insufficient in terms of milk production. We had always wanted to purchase a dairy cow but we did not have the means. When we got the transfers we used them to purchase a dairy cow worth KES 30000 at Chebunyo market, true to our intention it has assisted us in terms of milk productivity. Now we have enough for our daily consumption and surplus that we sell and use the proceeds to pay school fees. This has eased our lives and we are so elated about this."

"I am a widow, my husband passed just before we received the transfers. We depleted almost all the resources we had for his treatment. Eventually, he succumbed to the diseases and left us as paupers. We sold all the cows we had and so when I receive the transfers from GiveDirectly it came as a huge reliever of the burden I was going through. In order to reconstruct my life and that of my family I decided to purchase a dairy cow worth KES 40000. The cow recently calved and we are getting enough milk for our consumption, it has assisted us a lot and I am so excited about the help."
