Rehema
received a $27 sixth payment.
"I wish to have started rearing chickens by the end of this year. Since I lack a source of income, and given that am a housewife, livestock keeping is the surest way I could raise funds to support my children’s needs. Besides, having this alternative income stream would relieve my husband of the pressure that he undergoes to provide for us. "

"I used to have a small business selling local dried fish but I was forced to close it as I wasn't not making enough. I had no chance of taking care of my personal finances but now it is very different. I have joined a table banking group courtesy of GD transfers. I saved $20 in December, $10 in January and $20 in February. I am also doing personal savings which have been $2, $7, $7 in January, December and February. I also have been able to buy my child and I clothes during this three months since I am expecting and most of my clothes do not fit. I bought two dresses locally known as "dera" at $600 in February and a couple of Local material known as "Leso" to use during this period. I am also now an owner of two chicken that I got at $3 each."

"I now do a small business if plaiting people but I feel with more skill I could make more money and start another business to sustain my family. I would like to use my GD transfers to facilitate my schooling. My house is also not in the best of states. Half my roof is iron sheets and the other half is thatched, I would like to improve this. I also want to expand my house from one room to a three roomed house so I can have a kitchen a living room space and the sleeping space separate. I have so far bought five chicken using GD transfers which I hope to increase as the year comes along so I can have so many that I can sell and buy myself a goat."

I took my December transfer and took my ailing mother to hospital who is yet to get better but she got to be treated. I took my January transfer and used $10 to pay school fees for my child I used $20 for buying iron roof sheets to repair my mother's house, I used the remaining $4 for buying food."

"I received this transfers at a time of a big need for me. My husband was our breadwinner and his work was mainly motorcycle work, he got into an accident which fractured his arm and he has been out of work for some while now. I make charcoal from tree stumps but it does not pay much. I welcomed the new year in style courtesy of the Givedirectly transfers. I spent my December transfers went into buying food for the new year such as maize flour, wheat flour, beans, oil, sugar and tea leaves. My January transfers came in when my child was going back to school, she had passed her class eight exams and was joining form one since she joined a boarding school, this money facilitated her trip to school located in Mombasa town. She was also able to buy books and uniform. My February transfers were all directed to buying goats. I sold of some of the chicken I had and left three and added to the 3 dollars from my transfers and used it for buying two goats."

Margaret
received a $27 sixth payment.
"I currently do not have a steady job and my husband currently works for a printing company. My husband puts in a lot of effort to give our children the better life they deserve. The one thing we really want is to send our children to a good school and make sure they fulfill all of their goals. I took $14 as soon as I got my transfers and put it toward my four children school expenses. I spent some money on two chickens and I really hope they will hatch so that I can sell the chicks and make some money. I purchased groceries with the $10 that was left over because It is hard to survive and be healthy without food."

"I currently do not have a good job and life was really hard before GiveDirectly came into the bigger picture. I used to sell and burn charcoal and at times I would sell nothing and in the process we would go days without food. I am planning to save enough money and ensure I buy chicken and when they hatch, I sell them and buy goats that will make me profit. The moment I make enough profit, I will make sure I open a big shop for my beloved wife to keep my family moving. I will also buy more goats and cows for myself and sell them. When we both work, we will be able to give our family the kind of life they deserve."

Dama
received a $27 sixth payment.
"In order to get enough money and make sure my kids attended school, I used to hawk around in the blazing sun selling samosas. Sometimes I would go home empty-handed, forcing us to use my funds in the process. We were left with nothing after eating up all of my savings and I was compelled to stay at home because I could not afford to purchase stocks for my business. As soon as I began getting transfers, I gained confidence that I would be able to save enough money to continue working. Moreover, I want to get some chicken, which I can easily turn a profit on when they hatch."

"I had hoped to start a poultry farm, but financial constraints have hindered me from doing so. I currently have three chickens for which I intend to build a good coop, and I hope to eventually bring in more of both for egg production and to sell whenever there is a financial need."

Duncan
received a $27 tenth payment.
"I received the transfers at a time I was feeling so unwell and I did not know where to get money for medication. Upon receiving the transfers, I felt relief because I spent a greater amount of the transfers of $15 to pay for my medical bills. With the remaining amount, I spent $4 to buy chicken for rearing and saved an amount of $15 to help me purchase my dream motorcycle that would help me during my movements. I currently feel better in terms of my health and thanks to GiveDirectly."
