"Receiving this money means a dignified life for me. I live in a single-room house. With a family of two children, this house is very small to accommodate us. I have not been able to expand it because I do not have sufficient funds. I work as a motorcycle taxi rider. A 200 KES a day income cannot enable me to renovate the house. I am planning to use 30,000 KES to expand my house to 3 rooms. A big space will guarantee self-respect and ease the congestion."

"I spend 20000 KES to clear fees arrears for my son who was about to sit for his final year exams and he had been send home due to fees arrears and he was was able to go back to school and sit for his exams. My son whom I usually depend on is a motorcycle rider and he wanted to buy his own motorbike so that he can be earning some good money because the commission of 200 KES daily that he has been earning is very little. I gave him 10000 KES to add to his savings and he was able to buy his own motorbike. Ever since he bought the bike, it's evident that he has been getting good income from the support he has been giving me. I also spend 10000 KES to clear water bill that I had and 10000 KES to open a small local grocery shop. I am happy that I was able to achieve my first set goals and I'm hopeful that the second transfer will be so helpful to me as well."

"We have been living in a very tiny single room that my husband build during his youth days. With our two kids who are growing fast, we needed space and privacy for ourselves and we also wanted to build them a room of their own where they can where they can be comfortable. My husband who's a motorcycle rider earning averagely 250 KES per day had been trying to save towards buying building materials but due to family responsibilities, I had taken ages to buy few things. When I was enrolled in the program, our first priority was building the house into completion so that we can focus on other family matters. I also wanted to buy livestock because I lost all my livestock to severe drought last year. I spend 20000 KES to buy building poles, 6000 to buy two goats, 20000 KES to buy cow and the balance to buy enough food to take us for some few months. I'm hopeful that with the next transfer, I will complete building my two bedroom house and I'm so grateful to GiveDirectly for the support."

"I dropped out of school after class eight out of a lack of school fees. I decided to venture into casual jobs as a way of livelihood. In the year 2017, I developed a chest problem out of my motorcycle taxi business. This forced me to divert my attention to farming which I am currently engaged. I have developed a passion for it and it has always been my ambition to expand and improve it. This cash to me means an added asset and improved farm produce. I am planning to spend KES 40000 to buy a lactating cow to add to my two cows. This is an achieved goal for me. I will be able to sell more milk from my farm thus have more income to educate my children and meet other family basic needs. With the offspring to come, I will be financially secured hence live a stress-free life."

"When we received our first and second transfer, we were able to spend the money on various projects including buying a motorcycle to support my husband in his livestok selling business and I also remained with some money that helped me start a grocery business at a nearby center next to my home. These two businesses are right now doing well and with the increased profits, I have a plan of starting a posho mill business. Right now in our village there is only one posho mill that serves the entire village and with the rising population, I have seen an opportunity to tap into. I am optimistic that this will come into reality soon considering that I currently do not incur a lot of expenses at home having had my last born clear her college recently."

"Receiving this money means that I can start income-generating activities and stop working for other people. I will buy a second-hand motorcycle at KES 60,000. With it, I will start a taxi business that will earn me about KES 300 every day. This is a lot compared to the KES 150 that I get from working as an attendant at a meat vendor joint. I will then buy a cow at about KES 30,000 and poultry with the remaining amount. Livestock keeping will ensure that my wife is also actively generating money that we shall be using to buy food for the household."

"By the time I was receiving the transfers, I was admitted at hospital after losing my baby. I was still in pain after undergoing surgery and I was so stressed because I didn't have money to clear the hospital bill because it was an emergency case. Then, my husband who is a motorcycle rider couldn't afford to raise the money because he couldn't afford to save from the 200 KES commission that he was earning daily and he didn't manage to secure loan. I spend 20000 KES to pay the hospital bill and I'm grateful to GiveDirectly for supporting me at my lowest, when I had lost my first child. I spend the balance worth 34500 KES to add stock to my general shop business which was in the verge of collapsing and it's picking up well. I'm grateful for the support."
