"I currently face a challenge of landslide which has always affected our gardens and houses something that let us have suffer by having poor harvests leading hunger in the home. I also with my people some times sleep badly as a result of water penetrating into our house when it rains.
Transport becomes a problem when harvesting period reaches because we just carry produce on the heads which affects our health yet in most cases we are un able to arrive at required treatment."

received a $444 initial payment.
"I was working on the ongoing construction of a house after purchasing and 42 iron sheets and the timber used all around the walls of my new house when I received my first transfer. I still had to finish the exterior and install the gutters that would carry the rainwater from the roof into a massive capacity water tank 5 meters away from the building. So I spent $185 on two bags of cement to make a slab stand for the tank, three more iron sheets for making gutters and connecting pipes, and the timber used to finish a veranda, plus a $41 labor charge. Even though the house is not finished yet, I am glad I finished the part that required a lot of money. I also spent $95 on a Christmas celebration with my family of five, $35 on food, and $30 on a new pair of clothes for my mother-in-law. Furthermore, I am pleased to have offset a portion of the loan that I obtained for the initial portion of the construction after paying $60 from the transfer. I am a businesswoman running a retail business in a nearby shopping center that earns me enough money to pay back the loan at the rate of $130 per month. I am grateful for GiveDirectly's generous support, which has made a significant difference in my family's life."

"Water has been the greatest challenge in this area. Even though there is the availability of piped water, in the nearby shopping center accessing it is challenging. We then have to purchase and it costs us a lot."

"I was quite relieved when I received the trasanction especially because at the time I was gravely ill and I had failed to seek medical attention since I had no money. The moment I realized the arrival of the money, I immediately went ahead to spend KES 2,000 in trying to get treatment because my situation was dire. After I started feeling well, I went on to spend the remaining KES 1,400 to ensure that my family and I had a meal.
therefore I purchased six packets of maize flour and I was constantly buying clean drinking water as well."

"Lack of clean water for home use and livestock is the greatest challenge. With my old age, I rely on my children to purchase and grandchildren to fetch water for me. When they are not around, I struggle a lot and sometimes goats die for lack of water and pasture. The lack of rains has largely contributed to this and we have no better options."

"The scarcity of water is the most challenging for me . The rains have not been consistent for the past three years and as a result, the rivers have dried up completely. We walk long distances to get water for home use and even livestock. Sometimes we are forced to buy water at $ 0.60 per twenty-liter which is quite expensive. If we had water availability things could be better as we would be having enough food."

"The availability of clean tap water at my doorstep is the biggest difference in my daily life. The struggle to fetch from the dirty dams shared with animals is no more. This has saved us both time and health because the water we are currently using is safe for drinking and all other domestic purposes."

"Our life depend on farming but this area is surended mainly by hills and rocks in many places which make it hard terracing our land and when we are in sunny season we don't get as much production as needed because we don't even have access to water and we don't have access to enough fertiliser to use in our land either Organic and inorganic.
Another challenge we are currently facing is lacking access to roads, when we need to go to the hospital we travel a long distance by passing trough small areas that are not even adequate and it is hard for our children to go to school as well because the shools are located far from where we live."

"The house I live in is for my late parents because I did not have money to build my own. As a single mom who always like to be clean and neat, I am planning to work on this old house I live in using $200. I will add cement, put new roof because when it rains, the water come inside. I have a small land that I use in my daily life and to have a good harvest, I have to add fertiliser. I am planning to buy the pigs of $60. My children and I will also get some new clothes for school and the other ones, they can take to church for $50. We will buy kitchen materials like new sauce pans, plates, cups for $50. As we sleep in a place which is not comfortable, we hope to buy matress of $30. Health insurance is very important as well especially when you have children, I will pay for it $9. I am not in any saving group because did not have what to save but these time, I will make sure that I save in order to secure the future."
