"I have a family of 6 with two of my children currently going to school. Getting enough money to cater for all their needs had been quite a challenge despite the monthly transfers that I have been receiving due to so many needs. In the future, I no longer want to struggle and I would want to ensure that my children have a good education. Therefore, my goal is to invest the transfers in something that would be of help to my family in the future. I plan to start a livestock rearing project for poultry and goats and I would ensure that I buy at least a goat worth $30 or 3 chicken costing $9 every month I receive my transfers."

"I am grateful to be part of the GiveDirectly program, which is changing my life through monthly transfers. Receiving the transfers has made it easy for me to provide basic necessities, such as food, in my household. I am employed to look after my neighbour's livestock, where I earn a meager Ksh. 2,000 a month. This money hasn't been enough to fend for my family. When I received my recent transfers, I spent it on buying enough stock of foodstuffs and vegetables to last for weeks. In addition to this, I had also saved a portion of the transfer over the past few months, which I spent on buying livestock, a goat and two chickens. I am planning to rear them and benefit from them soon. I can readily sell them as they reproduce to settle my financial needs."

"Food shortage has been a challenge for my family. However, on the previous Christmas day, I slaughtered a chicken and also prepared chapati for the family to celebrate. The family had last taken such a meal one year back. The children enjoyed the meal and that brought joy to me."

"With the most recent transfer from GiveDirectly, I was able to complete a number of tasks that had been on my to-do list for some time. First, I constructed a spacious new house that could comfortably accommodate my  family of three. Previously, we lived in a small kitchen that served the dual purposes of cooking and sleeping . The building materials included 26 iron sheets for $195 and building poles for $120. I also hired a skilled contractor whose services cost $40. When it rains, the new house provides us with a comfortable living space as well as protection from infiltrating raindrops. In addition to constructing the new house, I also used part of the transfer to purchase foodstuffs worth $60 for my family. I purchased two chickens for $10 each, which were added to the existing three for egg production, which will help pay some of the household bills. Finally, I used the remaining money to buy new clothes and other household items that we had been in need of for some time. The transfer has made a significant difference in our lives, and we appreciate GiveDirectly's support."

"My main goal is to start a livestock-rearing project. Owing to the fact that I currently do not have an income-generating activity, and getting money to feed and educate my children had been quite a challenge. I would want to venture into the project of rearing chicken and goats on large scale. I, therefore plan to save $20 of my monthly transfers and after two months, I buy at least two goats and a few chicks to keep the project going. I believe that the project would have a long-term impact on my family because I would still have it even if the transfers come to a halt."

"My main goal is to expand the current poultry project that I have. I want to construct a nursery and buy 15 layers to add to the project so that I would be supplying eggs within the area to to boost the income from the sales of the other chicken. To achieve this, I plan to save part of my monthly transfers and I would be setting aside around $15 every month to help me start the side project and I believe that the income from the entire business would be of great help in terms of educating my children and I would never be stressed even if the project comes to an end since I would be having a source of income."

"My main goal is to start a livestock-rearing project. I have an experience in the field because I previously had the same project before, but due to some eventualities, all my livestock died and it is something that I would like to do again since it was of great help to my family. I plan to start with chicken and later venture into the rearing of goats. I would be buying chicken worth $15 monthly with the transfers that I would be receiving from GiveDirectly for a certain period and later sell part of them to buy goats. I believe that the project would be of great help in terms of the proceeds that I would be getting."

"I am grateful for the monthly cash transfers. By allowing me to provide for the basic needs of my seven children, the financial aid had given me a pleasant breather from the physical strains of charcoal making. It has ensured that my five children stay in school and that my family is regularly fed. This explains why I have mostly been spending the transfers on food and school fees. Recently, I used $17 to settle the tuition fee for four of my children, which gladly assures me that they will stay in class for the entire term. After that, I used $5 to buy high-nutrition food like milk and fruits for my seven-month-old infant, who recently started weaning. Sadly, the night before the cash transfer, my family had slept hungry, which prompted me to spend $6 for food. At least this served my family for a few days until my husband was able to buy us more food. Lastly, I bought two chickens with the remaining $6 for rearing purposes. Although my family still experiences hunger, I am glad that the chances of that happening are slimming courtesy of the cash transfers. If you compared our current nutrition to before, you would be amazed at the physical strength we have gained from eating more. "

"Since I started receiving payments from GiveDirectly, the biggest changes in my daily life have been the improvements to my livestock management and the upgrade of my chicken coop. With the financial support received, I was able to fence around my fields, using partitions to control the movement of my cows. This has made it easier to confine the animals and move them to the next partition when they have exhausted the available grass. Additionally, I was able to purchase a new chain-link fence for the chicken coop, along with iron sheets to improve its durability. These changes have made it possible for me to manage my livestock and poultry more efficiently and have had a significant impact on the overall productivity of my farm."

"I currently have a chicken-rearing project that I do on large scale, and on the farm, I have around 60 local chicken. I have had this project for quite some time now and the transfers that I have been receiving from GiveDirectly had been so far of great help. With such kind of a project, one is required to ensure that the chicken are well fed and good in terms of health and therefore with the most recent transfer, I managed to buy one sack of chicken feeds and also bought poultry vaccines worth $30 to last them for one month because the money that I had was spent on school fees for the children and other necessities. With the little amount of money that I was left with, I managed to buy food for my family worth $4 since I was also running out of stock. I was grateful for the support so far that GiveDirectly had accorded me."
