Baya received a $26 sixth payment.
"Last year around the month of September I decided to buy motorcycle. But since the money I had was not enough the seller and I agreed that I would pay gradually in installments for a period of one year and six months where I was required to pay KES 2,700 every week. I chose to buy the motorbike because I worked as a palm wine tapper and barely made enough to provide for my family. Luckily soon after I got enrolled into GiveDirectly and it helped me in paying for my debt. This is the similar thing I did after receiving the transfers and so I went ahead and used a portion of the money to pay for the debt. I gave the seller KES 2,500 and then used what I was left with which was KES 500 and bought stationery which included books for my five kids since they were resuming school."

"We live in a three-room house and we had converted our children's room into a kitchen. Since I have six children, the remaining section could not be enough for them to sleep and due to this, four of them who were the eldest had to seek shelter at our neighbor's houses at night. Upon receiving my recent transfer, I spent KES 28000 to build a more spacious kitchen, KES 24000 on a dairy cow and used the remaining amount to buy school uniforms for my two children who did not have them. I own a motorcycle that I use to offer taxi services to earn an income that I can use in supporting my family. Currently, I am happy that I have been able to achieve what would have taken me a long time to achieve on my own and I give credit to GiveDirectly for this would not have been possible had it not been for them." "I was at home relaxing after I was done with the house chores. Suddenly, I heard my phone ringing, upon confirming I saw a Mpesa message showing that I had received money from GiveDirectly. This was the most refreshing news that I had received in a long time. I was relieved because I knew that all my goals would be settled with the cash. The transfer impacted our lives amazingly thus we are grateful." (Occupation: Motorcycle or bicycle taxi)

"Upon receiving my transfer, I knew that I would be able to build a decent house for my family. This is because the house that we were living in was small yet the family size was growing. At the moment we are blessed with two children. My husband is a motorcycle rider hence what he earns is not enough to build a decent house, thus we used a sum of KES 45,000. I then used the remaining amount on foodstuffs. I am grateful for the support that greatly impacted our living standards to a higher level." (Occupation: Motorcycle or bicycle taxi)

"After enrollment, we discussed with my husband on how to spend our first transfer.Since my husband had a motorcycle, we prioritized on doing service to it since he had stopped working for some months since it had broken down.We spent KES 10,000 in purchasing spare parts and repairing it.We are happy he has resumed his business and faring on well. With KES 30,000we spent in starting up a general shop business.I am so much happy since the business is growing fast and picking up and the results is seen from my profit margin weekly.I also spent KES 5,000 in obtained a mattress since the one we had was too old. With the remaining amount, we spent in buying other foodstuffs."

"When I got the transfer, I first took out KES 20000 and I used it on buying maize for the consumption of my two sisters back home and some clothes for them. I then saved the whole of the remaining amount. I did so because schools were about to be reopened and I had not gotten enough money for paying school fees for them. One of them is joining secondary school in the next academic year and a lot of money will be needed for paying school fees and buying the necessary school items. Our parents passed on way before and hence they solely depend on me for everything. I am casually employed as a mechanic in a motorcycle garage. The money that I get paid usually helps me in meeting my needs, buying food, and paying school fees for my sisters."

"Receiving the KES 3000 has brought much joy and relief on my end. I was earlier married to one wife and together we were blessed with one child but due to the tough economic times, we parted ways and I moved back to my parents’ house where I reside together with my siblings. I am employed as a motorcycle taxi rider and that is how I make some small income to sustain myself. As a kind gesture to help my parents support the whole family, I bought food worth KES 1000 to last us a period of two weeks. The remaining amount of KES 2000, I bought one goat which I rare in our homestead." (Occupation: Motorcycle or bicycle taxi)

"The pay that comes with being a motorcycle taxi driver is not that much, especially when most of the income is spent on servicing the motorbike loan that I use which has only two months left to clear. I am married to my lovely wife who sells vegetables at her local kiosk and together we have four children who are in school. The KES 3000 received played a major role, as I was able to buy food worth KES 2000 for my family to last us for a period of three weeks since what we previously had was finished. Our children needed some necessities for school purposes, thus I bought them books at KES 300 and school shoes worth KES 700 enabling them to comfortably attend school when they reopen." "Jobs have been hard to come by in these tough economic times making finances a rare commodity. I am married to one husband and together we had been blessed with one child whom sadly passed on. I have no job, so I assume the duties of a housewife and my husband being the breadwinner is an employed motorcycle taxi driver who gets his income from the amount he manages by ferrying people and goods to different destinations. Receiving the KES 3000, brought a major difference to our lives and really helped. I bought some food supplements for our home at KES 900 to last us for one month as the food we had previously was already finished. I was also able to purchase one goat for KES 1500, as I have always wanted to practice livestock farming. The remaining KES 600, I visited the hospital since I had been feeling unwell and was able to get treated."

"My husband and I are blessed with two children, I used to work as a cook in a local nursery school and my husband is unemployed. Life has not been easy for us because we were all depending on our little income to sustain ourselves. We depended on purchasing foodstuffs on credit. When I received my transfer, I saw it fit to start a business selling household items, especially the foodstuffs. Thus I used KES 49,000 in putting up the shop. Lastly, I used the remaining amount in paying back foodstuffs debts. I am glad to have accomplished so much that I was unable to do before due to financial constraints."
