"To get water for our consumption, I am compelled to wake up at dawn and walk for an hour to go fetch it. The house I lived in together with my family had also collapsed due to heavy rains. We were forced to move to my neighbor's house where we stayed for 4 months. My husband got a builder to build a room for us where we lived up until when I got the funds from give directly and continued with the construction of the house. Now our living conditions have quite improved as the only thing remaining is the plastering of the house. I also got to pay for the motorcycle and the solar energy panel I had bought on hire purchase. Weekly I normally pay KES 3990 for them. Since I had absconded payment for the motorcycle, they were to repossess it but to avoid this, I paid KES 5600. My house is now smart and presentable."

"Before I started receiving funds from give directly, I used to use a bicycle to go and fetch water. It could only carry two 20-liter jerrycans plus it was tiring. Now, with the money we got, we bought a motorcycle instead. This would fetch us 6 20-liter jerrycans per trip. Saving us time and we also have more water for our consumption. In addition to this, my children were always complaining about the shoes they had which we old and torn. But thanks to the c the cash, they now have new shoes."

"With my health condition worsening every day and unable to find for my family, buying the motorcycle made a big difference in my life. Currently, my son is taking care of me because he goes to work and earns an income from it. I am happy that I no longer walk long distances to fetch water because my son delivers the water using the motorcycle to my doorstep for my use.  "

"I am a motorcycle rider with 3 children.Life has been so difficult to my family on the past 5 years due to financial inadequacy. My daily income is an average of KES 300 and this amount is too minimal to provide for my family needs particularly now during tough economic times. My three children are too young and still require sufficient and nutritional food for their growth.I buy 2 liters of milk daily at a cost of KES 100 since I do not have my dairy cow.The unavailability of milk in my family is truly a major pain in my life now." "GiveDirectly has done well by providing us with funds. I am advantaged because before the funds,I had nothing and without the rains, I might starve to death. I am grateful they visited our area. However, I wish I would receive the funds as a lump sum in order to buy the motorbike and live my dream of owning a motorcycle for business."
