received a $522 second payment.
"I am very peaceful as I have an improved shelter. I am no longer worried when it rains or strong winds blow across as before. I feel so happy also because my children have got an opportunity to study in boarding school of quality education. I have hope in providing for my family's basic needs like food from the motorcycle operation business."

"My life has really changed compared to how I used to live before. As per now, my children are able to continue with their education smoothly, than when they could be sent back home for school fees, stayed home and definitely missed lessons and even exams. We have merry go round meetings where we normally meet at every member's home twice in a month. Since I did not have chairs in my house, I could beg chair from my neighbours who later could gossip around the village on my poverty. I was ashamed to take up the meeting as a result of that. Now I have confidence because I bought good chairs and that has redeemed my social dignity."

"Receiving this money means adding more livestock to my current herd of about 5 cows and several goats. This is because livestock is a very lucrative business in my village, animals do very well here compared to crops due to the unpredictable weather and also fetch very good prices at the market. I also get products such as milk from the animals which am able to sell and earn extra income to meet my family's needs of food and education with ease."

"Receiving this money means i will be able to engage in an income generating activity. Being too old to open and run a business, i prefer to invest part of the transfers in livestock which does not consume much energy. This is also because my husband is a herder and will be able to take good care of the animals. With the rest, i will pay part of fees and do shopping for my grandson who is supposed to join secondary school this month but has not reported yet due to lack of finances. I believe when he succeeds in his education, he will be of much help to me in future. "

"Not having a stable source of income is my biggest hardship. Apart from subsistence farming, I also engage in casual jobs such as burning charcoal and wood cutting. These jobs do not provide enough money to sustain my family needs especially food and education. It is due to this situation that made me unable to see my four children through secondary school. Providing food is also a big challenge and in most cases when we do not have maize, we are forced to go without food for at least three days a week."

"Give Directly has done well to enable my children to continue with their education. My children can now stay in school because of the transfers I received. I had no property to sell to keep my children in school. I am happy Give Directly has assisted me in this way. I have not seen anything that Give Directly has not done well."

"I spend my second transfer to pay school fees for my child who was joining college, this always make smile since am sure that i gave my children quality education who will help me in future when i grow old. I also used part of the transfer to buy one more cow so as to supply enough milk for my family. The remaining part of the transfer I used to buy goats which is my great investment and I will later sell them and use the money to pay school fees for my children in secondary school and one who is in college. Thank you Give Directly for the unconditional cash transfers."

Zakaria
received a $539 initial payment.
"I never believed in my entire life that my children could proceed with their education beyond primary school because I believed the secondary school fee was too high for me to afford since I also didn't have a reliable source of income. Receiving the money from GiveDirectly has enabled me to take my child to secondary school and I'm so proud of it. This is the biggest difference in my daily."

"Seeing my daughter neatly dressed in full school uniform continuing with her studies is the greatest achievement in my life. This is because two of my children were not able to continue with their studies because I couldn't afford the secondary education school fee. I'm so proud and happy I was able to pay my daughter's school fees and this is the biggest differenc ein my daily life."
