How is your life different than it would have been if you never received the transfer?
My life is different from how it was before because for one I was able to build a new big house which I could not have built to date were it not for the cash transfers. I used to live in a small dilapidated house but then there was nothing much I could do about it because that is all I could afford considering that my financial ability is extremely low.
In your opinion, what does GiveDirectly do well, and what does it not do well?
I believe that the organization did a good thing by giving the village members the unconditional cash transfers which people used to change their lives. Personally, I paid school fees for my kids who had huge debts which had become almost impossible for me to offset. Considering how the organization changed peoples lives in the community, myself included, I cannot complain at all about the operations of the organization in our village.
What did you spend your second transfer on?
I used the second transfers to pay school fees for my children who had some pending balances which had become a problem to offset in good time because of my financial situation. I also bought a few building items which included timber, sand, cement and iron sheets. I built a new huge house which currently houses every member of the family in such a comfortable fashion as compared to how we used to squeeze the old small structure. Finally, I managed to buy a new sofa set which I would have never purchased was it not for the cash transfers from Give Directly because its price is too high.

Describe the biggest difference in your daily life.
The biggest difference is that I have renovated my house and I no longer get to be rained on when it is raining. This has given me a lot of peace, I am not worried about the weak walls like before now that they have been plastered. My house is now more habitable than it was before the renovations.
Describe the moment when you received your money. How did you feel?
The moment I received my first transfer, I was very happy and felt like my problems were all going to be solved. My daughter's school fee was going to be cleared and my house renovated.
What did you spend your first transfer on?
Upon receiving my first transfer, I opted to renovate my old house that had a leaking roof and the walls were almost falling down. I bought new iron sheets to replace the roof and plastered the walls and floor of my house. Now it looks as good as new. I also spent part of my first transfer to pay school fees for my daughter who recently joined form one.
