How is your life different than it would have been if you never received the transfer?
The cash transfers enabled the construction of a permanent house. This is a dream come true for the family. Further more, we purchased a motorcycle for a bodaboda business that earns the household daily income. In the past, we had no income generating activity. I am very grateful to GiveDirectly for helping the needy.
In your opinion, what does GiveDirectly do well, and what does it not do well?
GiveDirectly does well to give recipients the liberty to spend the cash transfers the way they see fit. I can only say GiveDirectly has positively transformed many poverty stricken households.
What did you spend your second transfer on?
I spent the second cash transfer to purchase a second hand motorcycle and house construction materials.

Describe the biggest difference in your daily life.
My daily life has greatly changed in that I am building a secure permanent house that will relive me from the burden of always renovating the hut I am currently staying in. This alone has given me a lot of happiness.
Describe the moment when you received your money. How did you feel?
The moment I received my money, I felt so happy that I started planning for it as I did not want it to go to waste if I do not plan for it.
What did you spend your first transfer on?
I spent my entire first transfer to buy building materials such as timber, iron sheets, bricks, cement, sand, nails, iron bars, food and pay labor that I am currently using to build my house.

What does receiving this money mean to you?
Receiving this money will mean improved standard of living in my household through building a better iron roofed house. I sleep in a grass thatched house that is difficult to maintain every year. Besides, I will pay off the mortgage amount for land that is mortgaged and regain ownership of my land for crop cultivation hence good security.
What is the happiest part of your day?
I am always happy in the morning because I wake up wen I had forgotten a bout yesterday's struggle. The rest of the day is hectic because I have to look for what the family has to feed on.
What is the biggest hardship you've faced in your life?
I am faced with the biggest hardship of inadequate food because I do not have enough land that I would cultivate crops for sustained food production.
