How is your life different than it would have been if you never received the transfer?
Currently I live a very happy life because this transfer enabled me construct a iron roofed house. Prior to getting this money, I used to sleep in a dilapidated house which was leaking and never gave me peace of mind. Secondly, I'm glad to see my grandchildren pursue education which will make them leaders of tomorrow and that brings joy into my heart.
In your opinion, what does GiveDirectly do well, and what does it not do well?
I'm happy that GiveDirectly helped liberate my community from extreme poverty. GiveDirectly did not do anything bad according to me.
What did you spend your second transfer on?
I spent my second money to clear a debt whereby my land acted as collateral security. I paid school fees for my grandchildren and the balance I bought stock of millet which I will resale when prices increase.

Describe the biggest difference in your daily life.
The biggest difference so far is that I am very happy because I have constructed a nice house. This would not have been possible had GiveDirectly not come to my rescue. Before receiving this cash transfer, I had lived in a dillapidated thatched house and dressed in bedraggled clothes for over ten years.
Describe the moment when you received your money. How did you feel?
I received a mobile money message at around 2:00Am but I read it early morning. I felt very happy because this money was going to enable me construct a permanent house.
What did you spend your first transfer on?
I purchased bricks worth UGX 560000 and iron sheets worth UGX 400000 and timber worth UGX 350000. I spent UGX 300000 on paying the builders and the balance was spent on food.

What does receiving this money mean to you?
Receiving this money will mean that I will be able to sleep well. Currently, I am sleeping in a leaky grass thatched house which I can not sustain to maintain every year.
What is the happiest part of your day?
It's usually at 4:00PM after I have struggled to get what to eat in a day's hard work when I am happy. That is because, I have done a lot of casual work during day, had a meal and rested for the next day's struggle.
What is the biggest hardship you've faced in your life?
The biggest hardship in my life is that, I stress myself a lot to do casual work in order to get what to eat. That leaves me with little time to dig in my own land hence inadequate food at my household.
