How is your life different than it would have been if you never received the transfer?
After spending my second transfer in all the plans that I had,I now have a plan of purchasing an additional piece of land since I do not have a place where my livestock can graze. I am saving towards the goal since I do both farming and saving part of what I get from my daily jobs.
In your opinion, what does GiveDirectly do well, and what does it not do well?
In my opinion, Givedirectly did well by allowing everyone to decide on what they would like to spend the cash transfer on. All the processes were fairly followed since every household got equal support.
What did you spend your most recent transfer(s) on?
I spent Kshs.23,000 in purchasing a heifer that is about to calf in a few weeks. Am grateful that we are going to have adequate milk for use compared to when we used to buy it. I also spent Kshs.20,000 in purchasing a 3,000 water tank which we will store water, especially during rainy season hence we save us walking long distances to fetch water. With Kshs.5,500 I paid school fees for my primary school-going children for the entire term. Spent the remaining in buying food for my family.

Describe the moment when you received your money. How did you feel?
I was at home relaxing when I had my phone ringing, it was around 9 am in the morning, upon checking what the message was all about I saw a Mpesa notification message showing that I had received the promised transfer, I was grateful to God for the wonderful gift that I had received, I then went to the nearest Mpesa shop to withdraw the money for me to confirm that indeed I had received the money and that it was real, I then informed my husband who was equally happy and excited.
Describe the biggest difference in your daily life since you started receiving payments from GiveDirectly.
I am a mother of three and a farmer, my husband is a security officer in the city, The biggest difference in my daily life is that I bought a dairy cow worth KES 28,000, I no longer worry about buying milk daily because one litre of milk goes for KES 45, which was very expensive for us but we had to bear with it because my children depend on milk hence we didn't have a choice, In addition to that I used part of my transfer in upgrading my kitchen with new modern utensils than the remaining money I stocked foodstuffs with it, I am grateful for the support that brought so much happiness and smiles in our life.
What did you spend your most recent transfer(s) on?
Buying milk daily for my children has been a pain on the neck daily, they all depend on milk for daily consumption,1 litre of milk sells at KES 45 , My husband is a local security officer in the city, and I am a farmer and a housewife, therefore we depend on him for daily provision, When I received my transfer my major priority was for me to buy a dairy cow that would give us milk, hence I bought a cow worth KES 28,000, I then used the rest of the transfer in buying modern utensils and foodstuffs. I am relieved and happy that I can save money daily because I no longer buy milk.

What does receiving this money mean to you?
When I receive this money I Will buy half an acre of land, the family land is too small hence I can't get enough space to keep dairy cows and do crop farming at the same time. I have been leasing where to plant crops like maize and it's expensive comparing with the produce I get from the leased farm.
What is the happiest part of your day?
Evening, this is because I will have dinner with my children , play with them, watch news and rest all night knowing that I did my best during the day.
What is the biggest hardship you've faced in your life?
Being raised in a family of 7 with a single parent, no father to depend on in terms of advice, fatherly love and no father figure is the hardest part of my life.
