How is your life different than it would have been if you never received the transfer?
Having exhausted both transfers with the priority plans on my list, I now have a goal of buying land since I have a small land and my family is growing. I am saving towards achieving this.
In your opinion, what does GiveDirectly do well, and what does it not do well?
Givedirectly did well by living a huge impact in many households in my village. All process were adhered to the latter as we had been informed by Givedirectly officers.
What did you spend your most recent transfer(s) on?
After receiving my second transfer, I purchased a dairy cow worth Kshs.30,000.We had been buying milk for a long period and this was so expensive and it wasn't adequate for consumption and at times we could take strong tea. Am happy that we are currently enjoying plenty of milk. I also bought a donkey at a cost of Kshs.10,000 which will be a means of transportation of water because we use to go and fetch water from a river which is a long distance. In addition, I can also use the donkey to transport maize, especially during harvest season for my neighbors hence getting an extra income. I used the remaining amount to purchase food and clothes for my entire household members.

Describe the moment when you received your money. How did you feel?
It was early in the morning as I was preparing to go to the farm to cultivate my land when I received a message notification on my phone. I checked it and to my my surprise, it was an SMS indicating that I had received money from GiveDirectly. I became so happy on seeing this, called out my wife and shared the good news with her. We celebrated together giving thanks to God for using GiveDirectly in a special way.
Describe the biggest difference in your daily life since you started receiving payments from GiveDirectly.
Before receiving the transfers, I had to walk for 4 km daily going to fetch clean water for drinking. This was time consuming and makes one so tired at the end of the day. The transfers enabled me to build an iron-roofed house for my family. Currently, I am able to harvest clean rain water for drinking and domestic use. This has saved me from the stress of walking far and also the money I usually use yearly in buying new grass for roofing. With this, I can gladly say that my life has changed for the better.
What did you spend your most recent transfer(s) on?
I have always walked for 4km daily going to fetch water for drinking at the nearest river. This water is always not so clean thus not good for consumption but we had no otherwise than to continue drinking them. When I received my transfer, I spent KES 50000 to build an iron-roofed house. I settled on this so that I would always be able to harvest rain water for drinking and domestic use during the rainy season and store them. I used the remaining KES 4700 on food and clothings for my family as a way of celebrating the good deeds that GiveDirectly had done for us.

What does receiving this money mean to you?
For the past 3 years, I have been fetching drinking from a river that is 4 kilometres away. This usually makes me feel very tired and I have been hoping that I get an opportunity to buy my own donkey. Receiving this money is a dream come true for me because I will use approximately KSH 15,000 to buy my donkey that will ease fetching of water. The other amounts will also enable me to build a modern semi permanent house. This will enable me to get rain water which is safer to drink as compared to the river water.
What is the happiest part of your day?
The happiest part of the day is in the morning because I have woken up strong and healthy. Its at this time that I take my breakfast and then I go and look for casual labor so that I can provide for the family
What is the biggest hardship you've faced in your life?
My biggest hardship at the moment is the lack of safe drinking water. I fetch water from a river 4 kilometres away and this is not clean water. I am worried that we may contract waterborne diseases and so I have been praying that I get finances to build an iron sheet roofed house so that we can use rain water because it is safer as compared to the river water.
