What do you plan to do with the cash transfer?
I see GiveDirectly as my hope for a better life because, I am confidently certain that, this money will change my livelihood. My wife Kanze will have the opportunity to expand her business and this will mean increased profit. My plan is to ensure her business premises is well organized to provide safe environment for customers. In addition, I will add her capital from the current $60 to $150. Thus, the plan is to spend utmost $200 of the transfers to invest in the eatery kiosk which will include repairing the structure. On the other hand, I will spend $300 to secure my father's farm which he leased it before he deceased. This will guarantee me enough land for farming to settle food insecurity. The remaining amount will support my mother to seek proper medication for her stomach problem. Hence, this is basically what receiving this money means to me.
What is the happiest part of your day?
The financial support from my wife! Yes, this is something that I can never take for granted. Although I have suffered financial challenges in my household, I am so much proud of my wife who recently started an eatery kiosk within the village. This has been my support whenever I miss customers from the taxi work. Hence, I consider it as something that has brought me joy in the past 6 months.
What is the biggest hardship you've faced in your life?
Financial constraints is what I consider to have made my life so tough. This is because, my motorbike taxi does not earn me enough to cater to all my family's basic needs. On a good day, I make $5, an amount that is very insufficient. To some extent, I have postponed very essential needs like seeking medication for my mother who was diagnosed with a growth in her stomach. This has robbed away my joy as the responsible son to her and it is for this reason that makes life so difficult.
