What do you plan to do with the cash transfer?
I currently have two daughters at home who are jobless. Since I do not have any reliable source of income, I am so confident that, this money can bring a positive change in my life. To ensure we live a better life, I plan to have my children actively engaged in business that will bring profit to our household. I intend to start clothes business and selling of foodstuffs within the village. This job will be operated by my daughters. A huge amount of the transfers ($700) will go to the business which will attract good profit to us and eventually a transformed livelihood. The remaining amount will help us to cater for other household needs. Thus, this is generally what receiving this money means to me.
What is the happiest part of your day?
In March 2024, I was visited by two brother-in-laws whom I had missed them for more than 10 years. Their visit gave me happiness because they bought for me 2 bales of maize flour and a crate of soft drinks. In addition, we slaughtered a goat and have a celebration as a family, something that renewed our relationships. Hence, I consider it as my source of joy.
What is the biggest hardship you've faced in your life?
Food insecurity is generally what has made my life harder. This is because, I currently depend on casual jobs like charcoal work that is very strenuous yet it has slow and little payment. This is to mean, in a month, I can only make $30 which goes to food. The alternative source of food is farming but this is very unreliable at the moment since the weather patterns are not favourable. Sometimes, we fail to harvest due to inadequate rains. Hence, this is basically what stands out as my biggest challenge.
