How is your life different than it would have been if you never received the transfer?
My short-term goal is primarily to expand my current livestock flock. I'm hoping to raise enough money to add to my existing herd of cows, goats, and chickens. In the long run, I would like to see all of my children finish their education, get good-paying jobs, and have access to all of the opportunities that we as parents may not have been able to provide for them.
In your opinion, what does GiveDirectly do well, and what does it not do well?
I can only speak for my own experience with GiveDirectly. They came into my life and made an immediate impact like no other. Because of them, I was able to educate my children while also achieving personal goals that I thought I would never achieve. GiveDirectly excels at making dreams come true, as they did in my case.
What did you spend your most recent transfer(s) on?
The bulk funds from GiveDirectly went towards paying school fees for my children. The transfers allowed me to bulk up on food as well. My small business, selling groceries , also got a major boost from these funds, not to mention the funds allowing me to complete paying for my 2 acre piece of land, which will allow me to leave some form of an inheritance for my 7 kids. I say seven, but my two eldest past, though I still consider them my children. My 3rd born just completed form 4, my 4th is in form 4 at Ventanguo Secondary, my 5th is joining class 6 at Mlunguwame Primary, while my 6th and 7th are both in grade 4 at Mlunguwame Primary. While I primarily volunteer as a midwife at Pentanguo in Ganze, it makes it hard for myself and my husband, who does casual labour on construction sites, to meet all the finances such as $150, $1.5, $1.5, $1.5, all in tuition fees for my kids, from eldest to youngest, respectively. We will eternally be grateful to GiveDirectly for all they have been to us.

Describe the moment when you received your money. How did you feel?
I saw the text message confirming that I have received the money from GiveDirectly in the morning, although I think I must have received it at night. I was so happy and grateful when I got the money because it was going to help me a great deal especially in completing the purchase of a piece of land that we had made partial payment for.
Describe the biggest difference in your daily life since you started receiving payments from GiveDirectly.
The biggest difference in my daily life since I started receiving money from GiveDirectly is that I was able to settle my children's school fees arrears that I couldn't before and I was stranded. However, with the transfer, I was able to quickly and swiftly settle them as well as completing the purchase of the piece of land. I am so happy and grateful.
What did you spend your most recent transfer(s) on?
I spent most of the transfer which was KES 11000 on settling my children's school fees arrears because I was determined to educate them, therefore, the lack of school fees and them constantly being sent home used to make me so unhappy. I am however, very happy now that they are in school for I know that when they get a good education with know disruption, they will stand a chance of getting employed in the future and they won't forget about me as well. I am so happy and hopeful. I also spent KES 7000 on completing the purchase of a piece of land that we had made partial payment for because where we live is not spacious enough for farming. We used to lease a particular piece of land whenever it is the farming season which used to be so inconveniencing as that was only limited to the seasonal farming of maize and not any other regular or more permanent crops that grow throughout the year. Therefore, I am now so happy that I've grown some other crops and trees on my own farm that is not limited to seasonal farming.

What does receiving this money mean to you?
I have two sons who are in secondary school. My first son is in his 4th year in secondary school and the second one in his 2nd year in secondary school. I have a fee balance of 40,000 KES and I need to settle this fee balance so that my children can enjoy their education without being disrupted by frequently sent home for fees. I am a farmer practicing domestic livestock keeping but due to the prolonged drought of this year, I lost 14 cattle and I have only 2 remaining. Receiving this money means I will settle the School fees balance for my children and then buy goats . Goats are doing well in our area and I see the importance of keeping goats than cattle because of the drought situation in my area.
What is the happiest part of your day?
I got relief food last month from kenya wildlife . I got 6 kilograms of beans and 6 packets of maize flour of 2kilograms each. This brought Joy and happiness to my family because I got food sustaining my family for 5 days.
What is the biggest hardship you've faced in your life?
Food insecurity is the biggest challenge. I have to look for money everyday in order to put food on the table. I depend mostly on charcoal burning business to feed my family. Paying school fees for my children is also a greater challenge.I currently depend on charcoal burning business which takes alit of time before you get money.
