What do you plan to do with the cash transfer?
Poultry farming is more convenient for me due to my health condition. I cannot do much lifting and chickens are easy to manage. I plan to use about $500 to build a good chicken structure, buy ten chicken and chicken feeds enough for two months. It will give me a good headstart. Poultry does well here due to the hot and dry climate. I'll sell the eggs and some cocks for profit. This will definitely improve our household income. Goats also do well here, and I need another source of income. Plan to buy two goats at about $100. They will multiply and can sell them in the future for other emerging needs. The remainder of the transfer will be saved, for food and to support my poultry and goat farming. One needs some extra money in case of sickness or to add more feeds.
What is the happiest part of your day?
I depend on God and go to church every Sunday. Despite my walking difficulty, I must always go to church. It gives me strength to keep fighting and hoping for a brighter future. It's a joy being alive and living with my daughter and grandchildren who assist me a lot. I'm very grateful to them.
What is the biggest hardship you've faced in your life?
I have a leg problem, which means I cannot walk or even do heavy lifting. I depend on my daughter who does casual jobs such as fetching water or washing other people's clothes. In a day she can earn about $3 which is hardly enough for food. A family of six is difficult to feed especially with the high cost of food supplies. To further worsen our food crisis is the long drought seasons experienced here, it has really affected us.
