How is your life different than it would have been if you never received the transfer?
Having a cow to rear on my own compound generates a lot of income from the sale of milk. Having bought foodstuffs to use when I received the money, allowed me to stay at home and work on my own farm. I immediately abandoned the charcoal trading business. The business had strained me too much and my health would not have been any better if I had continued. I used to work at night trekking for over 20 kilometers using donkeys to carry the charcoal. I feel happier when I see myself making money working on my own farm rather than having to do the illegal charcoal trade while risking my life by walking around in the wee hours of the night. I am safer nowadays.
In your opinion, what does GiveDirectly do well, and what does it not do well?
In my opinion, GiveDirectly did not discriminate against those who are employed. Everyone in the village got the transfers which made this program very fair.
What did you spend your second transfer on?
I spent the money I received on buying a cow. I was keeping a cow that I borrowed from a friend for the sake of getting milk for household consumption. Since I have young children, milk is necessary because they use take in all the meals. I also paid a debt that I owed a friend. I then bought food for the household.

Describe the biggest difference in your daily life.
The biggest difference in my life is that now I got money for buying medicine for my child and for buying food for my family. Before I would wake up early in the morning to carry charcoal to the market for sale using a donkey. I do not go to market occasionally and I can now stay at home with my children and have a good time with them as I got money the money for buying food for them.
Describe the moment when you received your money. How did you feel?
The moment I received cash from GD, I felt so relieved as the money would help me to buy food for my family. I would only depend on charcoal for living and couldn't stop tahnking God for GD for the money.
What did you spend your first transfer on?
The first transfer which I got from Give Directly, I spent a large portion to buy building materials. The house which I build cost KES 30000. I then spent KES 1200 on paying school fees and KES 4000 on buying maize for consumption. I also have a child who is epileptic and I spent KES 2000 on buying medicine for him. I also spent KES 12000 on buying foodstuff and clothes.

Receiving this money means a transformation of my entire family's life,With this money we are going to get basic needs which we have never had for a long time.

The happiest part of my day is in the morning,It is then that I get to see a new day through God's grace.
What is the biggest hardship you've faced in your life?
The biggest hardship I have faced in my life is my son's health condition.My son who is now 23 years old is suffering from epilepsy :it started when he was only 10 years it has been a tough journey since then we have been in and out of several hospital but his condition keeps worsening.It saddens me seeing him suffer when I cant do much to help him ease the pain.
