How is your life different than it would have been if you never received the transfer?
If I could not receive money from give directly I would not have managed to put up a spacious comfortable business premise. I could have lose all my customers and end up closing down the business, but right now I am very happy and glad that I have a very nice comfortable place to carry out my business. I would also not have invested in large scale sugarcane farming as I did without Give directly.
In your opinion, what does GiveDirectly do well, and what does it not do well?
In my opinion Give directly did very well by using M-pesa as away of sending money since it is very convenient because the M-pesa agent is almost every where and also very safe because it is not easy for one to know if you have received the money. They also did very well by not involving authority since it could attracted corruption.
What did you spend your second transfer on?
I spent most of the second transfer to buy building materials and built my own business premise at the near by center. I am running hotel business but the house I was in was very small that could not accommodate my customers comfortably, most of the customer could sit out side the hotel and this was not a good reputation. I started losing most of my customers because of lack of comfortable space for customers to sit on. Since I built a new house I have attracted all my customers back and my business is now doing very well and my customers too are very happy because they are eating in a very spacious comfortable house. The remaining balance I spent to invest in sugarcane farming, where I am very sure of getting good harvest that will allow me to pay for my children school fee with ease.

What does receiving this money mean to you?
Receiving this money means a big relief to me and my household. From the transfer, I shall be able to hire labourers to complete my house which has been in progress for a long period, owing to the fact that we do not have reliable sources of income.
What is the happiest part of your day?
The happiest part of my day is in the afternoon when we are free and narrate our life time stories as a family. Our past life memories play a vital role on encouraging us to be positive in life.
What is the biggest hardship you've faced in your life?
The biggest hardship I face is difficulty in acquiring food for my family members. Our crops were all destroyed by the adverse weather we experienced in the previous long rain season.
