How is your life different than it would have been if you never received the transfer?
My life is different in that, I bought a motor bike. Before, I found it difficult embarking on long distance journeys especially to my in laws whenever they needed me physically because of lack of transport means or money. In addition, this motor bike will enable me to generate income for my family unlike in the past when I relied only on agriculture for income.
In your opinion, what does GiveDirectly do well, and what does it not do well?
In my opinion, GiveDirectly has done well by improving my standard of living because I acquired most of the needs I lacked with the transfers. However, there is completely nothing bad that it has done.
What did you spend your second transfer on?
I used my second transfer to buy a motor bike.

The moment I received my money, I felt so happy because I would be in position to handle some of the financial issues such as renovating my house I had longed to solve.

I spent part of my first transfer to buy some building materials such as sand, cement that I plan to use to renovate my already existing house.
I also bought some household items such as mattress, bed sheets, utensils, food and clothes for my family.

What does receiving this money mean to you?
Receiving this money means I will be able to buy a piece of land for cultivation, provide the education needs of my children.
I have been struggling to work with only one garden for a very long time but now since this chance has come, I am going to buy more land.
This will make it a little easier for me to manage my family.
What is the happiest part of your day?
I am happiest in the noon time when I come back from my garden work.
At such a time, I am able to play and lough with my children.
What is the biggest hardship you've faced in your life?
The biggest hardship that I am faced with is poverty.
I have only a small potion of land which I depend on to produce food that feeds my family.
Being a man who has children, the small piece of land that I have is not able to produce food that can sustain my household needs. It is therefore common for me to do casual labour as a way of trying to supplement on on the little that I am able to harvest.
In most cases, the yields are even not good because the land is over used.
I have always had food shortage in my home and I think I have just lived in the poverty cycle all my life.
