How is your life different than it would have been if you never received the transfer?
My new goals now are to build a house for me and my family and start up a new business. My living condition had not been very okay but because I didn't have the means, it was just compulsory that I manage. Now things are totally different because I'm able now to build my house and invest in a new business for sustainability purposes.
In your opinion, what does GiveDirectly do well, and what does it not do well?
GiveDirectly has empowered us to be independent and live a better life. From my point of view, I don't know of anything GiveDirectly doesn't do well.
What did you spend your most recent transfer(s) on?
I have bought cement and zinc for my new house. In addition, I intend to buy goods to start my business in the soonest possible time.

Describe the moment when you received your money. How did you feel?
I was cooking at the moment so I sent my son to walk to where the network is and check my phone because everyone in the town was shouting and jubilating. He came back running to tell me my own was here on the phone. It gave me so much happiness amidst mixed emotions. I couldn't hold back the shouting and dancing.
Describe the biggest difference in your daily life since you started receiving payments from GiveDirectly.
I was really suffering before this transfer came. I couldn't send my children to school, I couldn't provide a fitting shelter for them but all that is about to change. I'm grateful.
What did you spend your most recent transfer(s) on?
I don't have a house so I intend to build one for me and my children then send then to school with the remainder. I've been squaring with friends and that is about to change, thanks to GiveDirectly.

What does receiving this money mean to you?
"The main plan I have for this cash transfer is change the roof of my house to zinc. Currently, it is made of palm leaves and it has been long since we last changed it. Even if we change it, it will still leak after a while. Zinc is the best option and I don't have the money to buy it. Many at times we have to sleep with neighbors when it rains heavily. I have so many plans for money right now but my house project comes first."
What is the happiest part of your day?
"I havested my pepper crops last Wednesday; 4 bags for which I sold and raised $7460LD. This was a great yield and it brought so much joy and laughter to me"
What is the biggest hardship you've faced in your life?
"My major challenge is shelter, This has been a challenge since the death of my husband. Life in my house during the rainy season is terrible. The house leaks when it rains because the roof is made of palm branches. I need money to have them replaced with zinc roof."
