What does receiving this money mean to you?
I have received this money with a happy heart because I am a poor person. Even my grandparents have never seen a program like this. I am very grateful for these transfers. I will use the first transfer to buy timber and iron sheets. I will also use the second transfer to build a house. I want to build a house so that when I pass on my children should remember that in the year 2001 our mother received transfers from GiveDirectly and she built a house.
What is the happiest part of your day?
I have been happy in the last six months because I have been able to sell some vegetables and buy food. I use some of the money that I make from my produce to buy a bucket of maize which I use for food. A bucket of maize can last me 4 to 5 days. This food is not enough but at the end of the day I am happy that we have had something to eat.
What is the biggest hardship you've faced in your life?
The challenges that I am currently facing is that the money I make from my business is very little. I have garden but the produce that I sell is not enough. I am not able to buy school uniforms and food for my children. Sometimes my children refuse to go to school because they do not have school uniforms.
