How is your life different than it would have been if you never received the transfer?
The biggest difference in my life is that l am able to till my farm with ease as compared to before when I had to hire people's oxen which could take too long before they work on my farm and it was also very expensive. Sometime I would go as far as using my own hand to till my farm and that is not the case now. I am now able to plant on time that usually leads to high production, which is always enough to sustain my family for a longer period before next planting season. I also now have a stable reliable source of Income. Since I managed to buy dairy cow and fortunately it has started producing milk. Of which l sell some milk in our local market and some for my family consumption. Since the milk has started getting me some income, my family has never gone to bed hungry. We are able to at least meet our daily needs.
In your opinion, what does GiveDirectly do well, and what does it not do well?
In my opinion give directly did a very good think by giving people money and not goods because people have different priorities. They also had staffs who were very respectful they did not force people to get into program if you were not will.
What did you spend your second transfer on?
I spent the whole of the transfer to buy an oxen for cultivating my farm and also dairy cow . I thought of buying oxen because I have been having difficulty when it comes to plough season because I have to wait for other people to complete tilling there land before I could hire them to till my land and sometimes getting money to pay for hiring the oxen also becomes a big challenge. This normally leads to late caltivation resulting to poor harvest. Since I bought my cow I am able to till my farm in time and get enough produce. I also no longer spend money to hire people's oxen to work on my farm as I used to do before. I also thought of buying cow because it is a long term investment that I could relay on for so long and it is also a source of income to my family. Fortunately it has started producing milk, that I am selling some to the community and some for my family consumption and making profit. Since the milk has started getting me some income, my family has never gone to bed hungry. We are able to at least meet our daily needs, as compared to before when I was depending on farming alone to sustain my family which sometimes I could not even get enough produce to sustain my family.
