How is your life different than it would have been if you never received the transfer?
All along, I wanted to complete my house project and also set up a new retailed business. Therefore, when I received my transfer, I bought 2 more bundles of zinc for my new house. I also purchased 1 carton of zinc nails with few packs of mixed nails to roof my house. GiveDirectly has been a huge blessing to me and my family. I am blessed.
In your opinion, what does GiveDirectly do well, and what does it not do well?
GiveDirectly unique process of choosing well deserved household to benefit from this program is laudable. With these transfers, my life has improved to a great extend. I am blessed to be part of this unique project.
What did you spend your most recent transfer(s) on?
Two of my most important priorities were building a house and establishing a new business. Hence, I bought 1 carton of nails ($4,200LD) to roof my house. I also used huge portion of my transfer to buy 2 bundles of zinc for $22,000LD. My balance transfer was saved. The money (saved amount) will be used to buy enough goods such as biscuits, candies, chocolate, garee etc...to start my retail business.

The day my transfer came I was at my doing some renovation works on my house. I did not actually know that money was on my phone till the town chief came back from the next town and told us that the transfer has been sent. When I heard that the money is in the phone I was very much happier. I have had two surgerical operations and I was advised by Doctor that I should not involve myself in do hard work. I felt like I was walk in the air.
Describe the biggest difference in your daily life since you started receiving payments from GiveDirectly.
The biggest difference in my daily life since I started recieving payments from GiveDirectly is that, I have my own phone now that makes communication easier for me. I can also afford to buy goods that I will be selling in front of my house. I have not had the opportunity to start business but with the money given to me by GiveDirectly, I have established business that I can get at least one or two dollars profit from. When GiveDirectly shall have left this business will sustain my family and I.
What did you spend your most recent transfer(s) on?
I used my recent transfer to pay school fees and portion was used to purchase goods for sale. With the business, I will be earning more money that will sustain I and my family when GiveDirectly shall have left my community. I thank God that I was enrolled into the program. I am going to make good use of this opportunity to better my household living conditions.

What does receiving this money mean to you?
For more then three decades life in this villlage has been really difficult. The issues with housing, food, education and access to medical facility has been a major problem. I will used this money to construct a better living place, Send my children to school, invest in business and carry my children to the hospital for check up. Additionally, used this money to buy food for my family. I believe that these things will help us live a better and decent life.
What is the happiest part of your day?
With all of the problems, I feels happy seeing my children playing in the evening. I see the joy and unity between them.
What is the biggest hardship you've faced in your life?
I'm faced with a long standing illness that gradually led to operation in 2012. Thereafter my condition seems to be improving untill 2019, atfer completing the building of my hut I was rushed to the hospital in Cestor where I went under another surgery. Up to now I'm still facing pain in my stomach. The financial cost attach to my illness is very high, friends and family have given me credit that I'm unable to pay back up to this day. The added responsibility as a father is not easy for me. Paying children school fees , providing food and shelter for them is a real challenge.
