How is your life different than it would have been if you never received the transfer?
When I look at my new house, I see a miracle and a big relief in life. I do not know if I would have built the house if it were not for GD. In my mind, I had a plan of building a bigger house than the one I had before the transfer. The truth is I did not know how to get finances of buying building materials to use in putting up a house of my preference. Due to this, building a bigger house was only a dream in my life until I received my transfer from GD. At first, I was not sure I will receive the money hence had to wait until the very day I received the notification on my phone about the transfer. Once again I had to check my balance to be sure I got the money as was promised. After confirming, I went and paid for building materials in our nearby hardware which I used in putting up the house I have now. I thank GD for helping me achieve my goal of putting up a new house. It is a dream come true for me.
In your opinion, what does GiveDirectly do well, and what does it not do well?
GD did well in giving cash to everyone in the village. This brought a lot of peace between the village members because no one was left behind. It reduced theft cases in the village and this really brought cohesion amongst villagers. As for me, I feel GD should not have given money to the ones who have not married yet. This is because they do not have the needs of a parent hence I would prefer their parents to receive the transfer on their behalf.
What did you spend your second transfer on?
I spent my second transfer on paying school fees arrears for my children who are in both primary and secondary schools. Had I not paid the money at that time, then one week later they would have been sent home for the same. This is because after paying the money, one week later the other pupils were sent home for fees arrears. I was very happy when my children were not sent home. I felt very proud as a parent because I was able to provide for the family well. I used part of the transfer to pay masons who finished constructing my new house. I bought building materials with my first transfer but did not have the money to pay masons to construct a house hence I had to wait until I get my second transfer to finish the house project. I also used the money to buy food for my family and for the masons who constructed my house. The rest I used to pay a debt I had from a friend to handle other medical emergencies I had in my family when my child fell sick and needed to be taken to the hospital.

Describe the biggest difference in your daily life.
The biggest difference in my daily life is that I'm proud and happy I have a spacious house that can comfortably accommodate my large family unlike before when my children could sleep on the couch. I'm now planning to purchase more household items because I now have enough space to store them unlike before when I didn't have space.
Describe the moment when you received your money. How did you feel?
It was early in the morning when my friend who is also a recipient of GiveDirectly gave me a call to inform me that the money had been sent. When the calll was disconected I was pleased to confirm that I had received money from GiveDirectly. I felt so happy and thanked God for such a miracle.
What did you spend your first transfer on?
I spent the first transfer on building materials that I used to construct a new house because the previous house was too small to host my family members comfortably. I only had a one-room house which was so small and I had to let my children sleep on the couch because there was no space to put an extra bed. This was so inconveniencing especially when I received a visitor in the morning and I had to wake them up to give space for the visitor.
