How is your life different than it would have been if you never received the transfer?
When I received my first and second transfer, I used part of it to buy a dairy cow. It is now my new goal to ensure that I take good care of the dairy cow until it starts producing milk and enable me change the living standards of my family. This is a long term investment that will see me pay school fees for my children in future without much struggle. I am optimistic that this goal shall be realized and that my three children will get the best in terms of education.
In your opinion, what does GiveDirectly do well, and what does it not do well?
In my opinion GiveDirectly did well in giving all of us an opportunity to spend the money in ways we thought would be good to us. It also did well by honoring their promise of sending us cash because initially we have had people promising us and failing to deliver. My greatest worry was that they could fail to deliver and I am grateful that they did not.
What did you spend your most recent transfer(s) on?
The biggest difference in my life is that I am now living a more stress free life than I had before receiving the money. I felt lonely when I lost my husband and what made me even more lonely is the fact that we had used every resource that we had to try and safe his life. GiveDirectly came in handy to help me out by giving me the transfers. I now feel so much happy

Describe the moment when you received your money. How did you feel?
The moment I received the transfer I felt so happy. I remember it was around 9am when I heard a ringtone message from my phone. I was busy in class teaching. I am a ECD teacher. So I didn't check the message. When I was done with the lessons I decided to check it. I couldn't believe my eyes it was message confirming that I have received money from GiveDirectly. I felt so happy and overwhelmed with joy. I immediately called my spouse and inform him of the good news and he was so happy too. I went and withdrew the money the same day and planned with my spouse in how to spent it.
Describe the biggest difference in your daily life since you started receiving payments from GiveDirectly.
The biggest difference in my daily life is that I have bought two heifers. I had always wished to own a dairy cow but because I didn't had money it was not easy. I depend on small scale farming and I am a ECD teacher. The income that I get is so small and cannot meet all the basic needs including paying school fees for our children. I had no extra money to purchase a dairy cow. I used to buy milk daily and this was so costly for me. When I received the transfer I felt so happy and we decided with my spouse to buy two heifers. When they reproduced in future we will have enough milk for my family and even sell the surplus to earn an income to meet other basic household needs and pay school fees. We are so grateful for the support because GiveDirectly has changed our living standard. We live with a great hope that soon we gonna get milk for the family. GiveDirectly has changed our living standard.
What did you spend your most recent transfer(s) on?
I spent KES 50,000 to purchase two heifers. This will enable me to cut the daily cost of buying milk when they reproduced in next few months.I am so happy because GiveDirectly has enabled me own a dairy cow The rest of the money I bought hens and food for the family. I am so grateful for everything, GiveDirectly has changed our living standard to be much better than before.

What does receiving this money mean to you?
My desire in life is to be a productive dairy farmer.I am an ECDE teacher and my husband does casual jobs the money we get only caters for food and clothing.Currently I own only one cow which gives me 3 litres per day I sell 2 litres and get 18$ per month which is not enough to sustain my family needs.I am planning to buy two dairy Cow at 800$ which would give me a monthly income of 90$.I would then use the remaining20$ to buy enough food for my family.
What is the happiest part of your day?
