Describe the moment when you received your money. How did you feel?
The moment when I received my cash transfer I was so thankful because I have never received such amount of money before..So I knew that I will be able to accomplish one of the plans which I had.
Describe the biggest difference in your daily life since you started receiving payments from GiveDirectly.
The biggest difference in my daily life since I started receiving these payments is that I have been able to purchase food and I am able to eat all the required nutritious and healthy foods..This is contrary to how I used to live in the past as I would go the whole day without eating and at times I only ate when I felt hungry. Lastly, I am now own a business a thing which I could never have managed since I was struggling a lot to find money.
What did you spend your most recent transfer(s) on?
I have used my most recent transfer to establish a new business which I have been admiring so much..I always dreamt of having a small scale business so that I can be running it in my village..So I purchased a bunch of winnows (lichero) made of bamboo sticks that I am now selling. Also, I bought 2 bags of maize inorder to make sure that my family is not starved up to the end of the year. Lastly, I have saved some of the money so that I can be able to buy fertilizer and seeds before the rainy season.

What do you plan to do with the cash transfer?
When we get this money, we will invest it in livestock. The other money will be used to buy fertilizer so that we have good harvests next year. With the profits from the livestock, we will manage all our basic needs.
What is the happiest part of your day?
There hasn't really been anything in the past months that made us happy. Happy days are there, here and there, but not necessarily because of a particular incident.
What is the biggest hardship you've faced in your life?
At the moment, we have no food. This is because we didn't have money to buy fertilizer last cropping season and only harvested 7 bags. Of course that was better than previously when we could harvest only 3 to 5 bags. Still, it is not enough to carry us through the year. So we find casual work and buy food when we get paid while reserving the few bags we have left. We are utilizing this time when work is available, there will be a time when no work is available and that's when we will eat what we reserved.
