Describe the moment when you received your money. How did you feel?
I was so grateful when I received my transfer. January is a very difficult month to survive. The money brought joy to my day to day life.
Describe the biggest difference in your daily life since you started receiving payments from GiveDirectly.
So much has changed. I am so grateful for the transfer I received. I am leaving a happy life than before. I managed to buy iron sheets and bricks which I couldn't have managed to buy on my own. I also managed to survive the hunger that comes in January with the food I bought.
What did you spend your most recent transfer(s) on?
I used the money to buy 20 iron sheets. I also took MK 100 000 to buy bricks. I am planning to build a house when the rainy season stops. I have been struggling to provide clothes to my children. This was also an opportunity to buy them clothes and school uniforms. I also bought beddings such as blackets and bedsheets. The remaining amount was used to buy 3 bags of maize for food processing.

What does receiving this money mean to you?
Receiving this money would free me from poverty. I would use the money to build a house with iron sheets because this current house I am living in leaks a lot during the rainy season.
What is the happiest part of your day?
For the past months me and my family haven't gotten sick and this made me happy. I recently got divorced but I have been able to feed my children since I had a high crop yield last season . Another thing that brought alot of joy in my life is that my brother who is South Africa sent me money to start a business since I have been struggling to support my family on my own.
What is the biggest hardship you've faced in your life?
My husband left me in august this year and I have been struggling to support my family on my own. The biggest challenge is that I do not have a source of money to afford clothes for my children.
