How is your life different than it would have been if you never received the transfer?
My life is better now in that, No one can suspect me off having HIV/AIDS since my health has improved because I feed well and on time due to the transfers that have helped me buy food in the household. I also live a happy life because I resumed rearing livestock. From the time the karamojong warriors attacked Teso and looted our cattle, I never bought any but thanks to GD that I now own cattle. These transfers have also increased my business capital and its booming to the fact that I can even fill a car full of hide and skin as compared to the past.
In your opinion, what does GiveDirectly do well, and what does it not do well?
In my opinion, GD has helped me boost my business of hide and skin which was collapsing before I received transfers. These transfers have also enabled me renovate my house in terms plastering, Flooring and installing strong door. The transfers also helped me acquire household items like mattress, net and shoes. In addition to that, I love the fact that GD did collaborate with government because had they worked in conjunction with the government, we wouldn't have received all our transfers due to much corruption in the system. However, GD should not listen to rumors from neighbors because some people could be having their petty wrangles and they end up giving wrong information about others. The program has not benefited other people in the village due to false information fed to the field team by community members.
What did you spend your second transfer on?
I spent my transfer on purchasing livestock. From the time I was visited by GD field team during enrollment stage, I informed them that I live with HIV/AIDS. This prompted me to acquire livestock for milk production that I can consume to boost my health. Other than milk production, I can also use the very livestock for plowing.
