How is your life different than it would have been if you never received the transfer?
My family and I currently live in a small house that contains 2 bedrooms and a single bathroom. When I received my first transfer, I bought 2 bundles of zinc for $16,800LD. This was because I wanted to replace the thatch on my old house with Zinc. However, when I received my second transfer, I bought additional 3 bundles of zinc to build a bigger house with 4 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms creating more comfort and space for me and my family. The construction of a new four bedroom apartment in Duoh has become my new goal.
In your opinion, what does GiveDirectly do well, and what does it not do well?
From my own judgement, GiveDirectly treats everyone within the community equally when selecting qualify households. The idea of giving out cash as grant to us and allowing us poor people make our own choice on how to spend it is incredible. I'm so excited and privilege to have benefited from this life changing opportunity. I'm grateful to the entire team at GiveDirectly for their exceptional undertakings in making our lives better.
What did you spend your most recent transfer(s) on?
Initially, I've already paid for two bundles of zinc for $16,800LD because I wanted to change the thatch on my old house to Zinc. Notwithstanding, with the second transfer from GiveDirectly, I've decided to build a bigger and spacious house that would contain 4 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms. In so doing, I bought additional 3 bundles of zinc for $25,200LD. I also used portion of the money to buy mattress for $7,000LD.

Describe the moment when you received your money. How did you feel?
I was on my farm harvesting when I received a message alert in my phone. I didn't know it was the cash that had been transferred to me. Then at an later hour, I went to the kitchen and gave the phone to my husband and told him that an alert was in the phone for him to read, since I am unlettered. After reading the alert, he told me that it was the cash transfer from GiveDirectly. Just by hearing it was the cash from GiveDirectly, I jumped out of the kitchen with joy. I mean with singing and dancing and the next day without any delay, my husband told me to go and cash out the money.
