How is your life different than it would have been if you never received the transfer?
My next goal would be to purchase a parcel of land. This is because the one that I own is family land and it is small. To realise this dream, I plan on managing the dairy project well, where I would use its income to achieve my goal once I can sell the milk.
In your opinion, what does GiveDirectly do well, and what does it not do well?
GiveDirectly Educated us on where the funds came from, and also why they were in our village. They also taught us their model of operation and what the program entailed. In my opinion, I never saw any loophole or thing that needed to be corrected in their work. I am so grateful for the support that lifted our living standards amazingly.
What did you spend your most recent transfer(s) on?
The moment I received my first transfer, I prioritised buying a motorcycle to have a reliable source of income. I used to rent a motorcycle before, which was very hectic and what I earned was not enough in sustaining my family's daily needs. I, therefore, opted to buy a motorcycle on hire purchased where I used my first transfer as the down payment. Upon receiving my second transfer, I used $200 to pay for the motorcycle. Additionally, I bought a dairy cow worth $300 to reduce the cost of buying milk daily. Lastly, used the remaining amount on foodstuffs and clothes. I would not have achieved all this if I had not received the cash from the organization due to financial constraints, thus I am grateful.

Describe the moment when you received your money. How did you feel?
It was around 5 pm I had left my phone charging at home. I was in the neighborhood, then within that time, my neighbor said that she has received a message from GiveDirectly, Since I had left my phone I rushed back and check it out. I could not believe my eyes there was a message confirming that I have received KES 55,000 from GiveDirectly. I felt so happy because I have never received such an amount of money before. My family members were so happy too, it was the happiest evening we have ever had. I knew I would be able to buy a dairy cow. We aligned well and went to withdraw the money the following day.
Describe the biggest difference in your daily life since you started receiving payments from GiveDirectly.
The biggest difference in my daily life is that I have purchased a dairy cow. I used to buy milk daily and this was so costly. This was the biggest challenge that I was facing at that particular time. I am a motorcycle taxi operator, someone has employed me to work for him. This was so demanding because I had to meet my needs as well. There were no savings I could make due to the daily recurring of basic needs. I used to spend KES 50 per day on milk and sometimes whenever I had no money my children would miss getting milk and this was so stressful. When I received the transfer from GiveDirectly I decided to invest in dairy cows. Currently, I have enough milk for my family and this had given me peace of mind since I no longer struggle like before. I wish to grow this to another level since this in the long run will be my main source of income. I will be selling milk since there is demand and I will save the money to buy another dairy cow.
What did you spend your most recent transfer(s) on?
I spent KES 20,000 on purchasing a dairy cow. This is because I used to spend KES 50 per day on purchasing milk. This is so costly because I do not have a continuous source of income. Currently, I no longer buy milk like I used to do before. My children get enough milk and this had enabled me to save the money that I would have used on purchasing milk. I deposited KES 20,000 and purchased a motorcycle on hire purchase. This is subject to the daily installment of KES 300. This had given me some hope since I know I will repay all the outstanding balance and fully own the motorcycle. I spent KES 5,000 on medication for my spouse who had given birth. The remaining amount of money I spent on food and household items that we were lacking at that particular time. GiveDirectly has improved our living standard of living.
