How is your life currently different from how it was four months ago?
four months ago my barber shop had collapsed but its thriving at the moment thanks to the transfers which helped me revive it:with my daily earnings of about 200 KES I have been able to save and lease more land for farming,I recently harvested 3 bags of beans which on selling them i was able to pay my daughters.
Do you have any new or additional goals for your life for the next four months?
My additional goals in the next four months revolves mainly around improving my barber shop business at the moment I m only earning 200 KES a day,i want to put more input on the business like hiring one extra person in-order to boost my earnings.If all goes well I will be able to earn more and on saving i will lease land and do farming for commercial purposes which will help get daily earnings
Describe the biggest difference in your daily life in the last four months preceding the current transfer.
Before receiving these transfers i used to solely rely on casual jobs like digging, weeding and fencing other peoples farm, on receiving these transfers i revived my barber shop that had collapsed
How do you expect your life to change in the next six months?
I am projecting enough savings from my barber shop,enough to buy me land. Here land is very cheap with 40000 KES i can get half an acre of land to expand my farming activities,if all goes well my family will never lack food and other basic commodities

Describe the biggest difference in your daily life since you started receiving payments from GiveDirectly.
The greatest difference in my life is that now I can have a peaceful night after getting these money I can afford to sleep having something to eat in my house and having a good shelter.
How do you expect your life to change in the next six months?
In the next six months I expect my life to have change as am planning to buy a cow and do paddocking in my farm. I would expect to live like others who are well off having milk for use and for sale.
How is your life different than it would have been if you never received the transfer?
My life would have been so difficult if not with the help which I got from GD. I spent it to meet some of my needs which include good shelter which I put up after receiving the GD funds.
Do you have any new goals that you didn't have before receiving the transfer?
The new goal which at the moment is to have a cow so that we can stop buying milk for use. For so long we have been buying milk and this has costed me a lot as I can spent KES 100 daily on the same which rather if I would have my own cow I would have save the same amount for other personal use.

What is the biggest hardship you've faced in your life?
For the past eight years, I have never had any maize yield from my farm due to maize-stalk disease yet I have been planting them. Maize being a source of stable food for my family, I had to buy them on several occasions yet I was unemployed. So I had to persevere/struggle all those years to sustain my family's basic need and this made my life so difficult. This is the biggest hardship I have ever experienced.
What is the happiest part of your day?
The happiest part of my day is in the evening when I come back from my barber shop,already made profits for the day and carrying with me something for my family to take for supper.
What are you planning to spend your transfer on?
I am planning to spend my transfer on constructing a semi-permanent house and equipping it with household items. Furthermore, I will buy a dairy cattle.
What is the achievement you are proudest of?
When I finished primary school, I started raring free-range chicken on small scale level and they multiplied into a reasonable number after sometime. Later on I sold most of them and bought some goats which up-to-date have really increased in number and at the same time I usually sell them to cater for the needs of my family. This for me is the greatest achievement I am proudest of.
