Describe the moment when you received your money. How did you feel?
The moment I received my transfer I was very happy. I was so happy that I cried because receiving such a large amount of money was very strange for me because no one has every given me such big help. I prayed to God and thanked him because I knew that the money would change my home situation. My home now has enough food and better mattresses to sleep on because of the help I received from GD.
Describe the biggest difference in your daily life since you started receiving payments from GiveDirectly.
The biggest difference in my daily life is that I now have better places for my children to sleep on. They had no mattresses but now they have comfortable mattresses to sleep on. My children used to use small clothes for beddings because the was no money to buy bedsheets but I have now managed to buy bedsheets for my children. I also bought books for my children. My family is very happy than it was before.
What did you spend your most recent transfer(s) on?
I have spent my first money transfer from GD to start building a new house for me and my family. I have also used the money to buy two bags of maize so that my family has enough food to eat. I am building a new house because my old house is in a very bad condition. The roof is falling in and it only has two bedrooms. I have kids who share one room while I sleep in the other room. I have not been able to fix my house because I did not have the money to do so. My husband died leaving me to provide for my children making it hard to have enough money to build a better house.

What does receiving this money mean to you?
I am so grateful for being considered in this program. I am very excited to be part of GD beneficiaries. My house is being shared by two families and I have been desiring to build a house but I have been failing because of difficulties in financies. I will just use the money to build a bigger house and buy some food.
What is the happiest part of your day?
I am a happy person when I am chatting with my family.
What is the biggest hardship you've faced in your life?
My maize field was attacked by insects such that my harvest was affected. Now we don't have enough food as maize is our staple food.
