How is your life different than it would have been if you never received the transfer?
Living in a decent spacious house, starting a livestock rearing, and owning a piece of land is what makes my life different. For many years, I have wished to own a piece of land for farming since the one I had was infertile which led to poor harvest resulting in food insecurity in the family. After receiving my transfer, I spent $360 to purchase a one-acre piece of land. I also bought one local dairy cow and a goat for $154, this is my future investment for the family which will help me in educating my children when it multiply and cater for any financial emergency that might arise.
In your opinion, what does GiveDirectly do well, and what does it not do well?
In my opinion, GiveDirectly did well for helping households by alleviating poverty in my community, through the coming up with the cash transfer program. I appreciate the organization for the good work. I don't see anything that it does not do well.
What did you spend your most recent transfer(s) on?
I have desired to construct a decent house for the family since the one I had was small to full accommodate us and our properties. Despite the fact that it was very small I was using it as my kitchen at the same time. I spent $500 of the transfer to construct a spacious two-roomed house for the family. The remaining amount assisted me in boosting the livestock rearing by purchasing one goat an economic activities I had started with my first transfer.

Describe the moment when you received your money. How did you feel?
It was around eight in the morning when I was from the farm when I received the Mpesa message from Give Directly. I felt so happy and thanked God for bringing GD into my village and relieve us from poverty.
Describe the biggest difference in your daily life since you started receiving payments from GiveDirectly.
The biggest difference in my daily life is that I now own some livestock which includes a dirty cow, goats, and chicken. I chose to purchase them since they will make me wealthier within a short period of time. With the dairy cow, I will be getting milk for free whereby I will be using some litres for my family consumption and sell the remaining litres to my neighbours and local markets. Also with the goats, I am sure that when I later sell the offsprings I will be able to achieve most of my goals. This makes me ambitious and hopeful in life because I will no longer strain in meeting my family's needs as before.
What did you spend your most recent transfer(s) on?
I spent part of my first transfer on buying some building material such as iron sheets, several building poles, nails, and timber. I bought all these with an intention of adding two rooms to my previous house. I also bought some livestock which includes a dairy cow, some goats, and a chicken. These will come in handy when an emergency arises. I also bought a piece of land specifically for m agricultural activities. With the remaining amount of money, I bought enough foodstuffs and some decent clothes for my children.

What does receiving this money mean to you?
I have been living in my small house for long and sometimes when I get visitors it is difficult to accommodate them. I am usually forced to borrow shelter from my neighbours. As a mother of three,I feel there is no privacy with the small room given that my children are growing older day by day. I will therefore use the money to expand my house to have two extra rooms. In addition, I will buy three cows which will boost me financially through the sale of milk.
What is the happiest part of your day?
I spend the better part of my day doing very tiresome activities such as selling of charcoal and ploughing my small farm. Evening comes as a relief for me since I get time to interact and laugh with my family. This makes it the happiest part of my day.
What is the biggest hardship you've faced in your life?
My husbands works as a grounds man in a rental apartment in a nearby town. His salary is very uncertain and sometimes delays up to 2 months. This makes it difficult for us to plan and get our needs well satisfied. Most of the time we end up using his salary to clear debts leaving us with little to buy food, clothes and other needs.
