How is your life different than it would have been if you never received the transfer?
At the time when we received our transfers we had food shortage. We bought seven sacks of maize which took us for some months. Were it not for Give Directly it would have been a real struggle for us to have food.
In your opinion, what does GiveDirectly do well, and what does it not do well?
Sending transfers to us by Give Directly is the best approach which saw all the beneficiaries revive the money which they were promised directly to their phones. This payment is the most effective as all the transfers reach the intended people in full.
What did you spend your second transfer on?
The second transfers which I got from Give Directly I spent part of it to pay school fees for my children who had been sent home. I also gave my husband some for buying clothes for himself and bought some beddings. The large portion I spend on buying building materials for constructing a good house. We are so happy as a family that we have a good house.

Describe the biggest difference in your daily life.
The biggest difference in my daily life is that my family now feeds well and they get three meals in a day unlike before when we used to take only one meal a day. This has made the health of my grandchildren to improve as they now get a balanced diet and enough food. The signs of malnourishment which had started manifesting itself in them have already faded.
Describe the moment when you received your money. How did you feel?
I had been anxiously waiting for the money from the first day of that month since I was informed during the enrolment process that I would receive them on that month. On that particular morning, I had woken up so early so that I could go around in search of any work to do. When I check my phone to know what time it was, I realized that I had an unread message. My heart was filled with happiness after reading the message as it confirmed to me that I had received the money I had been waiting for. I then prayed to thank God for His blessings upon my family on that day.
What did you spend your first transfer on?
I have a daughter who is not married and has five children and they are all under my care. When I received my first transfers, I decided to give her a helping hand by paying school fees for her children. I also bought two goats as an investment. When they have reproduced and increase in number, I will be able to sell them and use the money in my grandchildren's education. I have been sleeping on the floor and my bedding has always been old clothes. I decided to spend part of my transfers to buy a bed and a mattress so that I would be sleeping comfortably. used the remaining amount to buy four sacks of maize, 32 kg beans and 50 kg rice in order to boost my family in terms of food.

What does receiving this money mean to you?
I have been aspiring to buy high yielding dairy cattle. Our land does not suppprt crop farming but animal keeping does well here. The milk that will be obtained from the dairy cattle will act as a source of income.I say this because currently, there is a high milk demand in our town. Again,my household will be assured of a near consistent supply of milk. Therefore, receiving this money will mean that I will buy some dairy cattle for my household.
What is the happiest part of your day?
My normal day entails spending 5 morning hours in my farm where I planted maize, beans and sweet potatoes. I spend my afternoon hours fetching water and firewood. The happiest part of my day is in the evening for this is the only free time that we share the day's experience as well as plan for the the next days.
What is the biggest hardship you've faced in your life?
The biggest hardship we have faced in life is lack of enough money to meet education expenses. We have also had difficulties in meeting some of basic needs such as food and clothing. This has been greatly been contributed by the unemployment state that has become part of us for as long as we have lived. Lacking cash to meet some of our basic needs and pay school fees for our children remains the biggest hardship in our household.
