Describe the moment when you received your money. How did you feel?
I was chatting with my friends on my veranda. I then received a message that my transfer is in. I jumped around and I went to withdraw the money the same day. I couldn't contain my excitement. I am so grateful for the transfer.
Describe the biggest difference in your daily life since you started receiving payments from GiveDirectly.
So much has changed. It's like I am living a new life. I used to worry a lot before the transfer but now I am living a healthy and a happy life. I had no food such that I could sleep on an empty stomach. I have bought enough food with the transfer. My beddings are also improved because of the money I received. I am so grateful for the transfer.
What did you spend your most recent transfer(s) on?
I used my transfer to buy some beddings. I bought a mattress which costed me MK 68 000. I also bought a duvet which was at MK 22 000 and a blacket at MK 20000. My sleeping place was not nice that's the reason I first focus on improving my sleeping place. I also bought 5 bags of maize for food processing. My harvest was not enough such that I could miss some meals at times. I also bought kitchen utensils such as pots, plates and spoons. I am planning to build a house next year. I have saved part of the money so that I can add on my second transfer to carry out the house building project.

What does receiving this money mean to you?
When I receive this money, I will use it to build a house, I already have bricks what is needed is money to progress it. I'll buy a better mattress than the one we have now. I'll so have to stock up groceries and all basic needs.
What is the happiest part of your day?
I'm happiest in the morning when I wake up in good health so that I can go and make money to provide for my family
What is the biggest hardship you've faced in your life?
The biggest hardship I have faced is the lack of space (land) for me and my family to settle on. We would love buying some land were we can build our house on. So that we have our own space as a family.
