What does receiving this money mean to you?
If I am bless to receive a transfer from GiveDirectly, I intend to send my children to school because I have five children of which the two older ones had not been in school for the past two years. The school we had in the town was a Methodist Church school that got closed down since 2019 due to lack of payment of teachers. I really want the two elderly children to move to Monrovia to attend but because of financial constraints, I am unable to do so. I am only depending on subsistence farming that only provide us with daily substance, but not additional cash flow to pay the children school fees.
What is the happiest part of your day?
What makes me happy in the last six months is that in September of this year, the char coal I was burning produced about 50 bags. This was the highest amount of bags I was able to produce since this year, and that makes me feel very happy because I was thinking where to credit money from to buy food for the house and pay for my treatment. The coal was sold and the money was used to buy food and pay for my medical treatment.
What is the biggest hardship you've faced in your life?
The biggest challenge facing me now is the lack of money to pay for my children school fees. Even though the two bigger children were in school, but were forced to dropped out of school because of money. I sometimes managed to burn char coal and sell it, but the money that I get is inadequate to meet our daily needs and at the same time pay for the children school fees. I will be very grateful for any help GiveDirectly will give me to improve my livelihood
