How is your life different than it would have been if you never received the transfer?
Prior to receiving these cash transfers, I had constructed my semi permanent house that was getting weakened by rains because the wall was made of bricks and mud. When I recieved my transfers, I bought construction materials that were used to plaster my house, build the veranda and cement the floor. I am so happy because my house is very clean free from dust and I believe it's going to last for a long period of time because the plaster has made the wall very strong. In addition, I have owned an ox that is going to help me plough my farm land.
In your opinion, what does GiveDirectly do well, and what does it not do well?
In my opinion,GiveDirectly has done will to give me money that I used for plastering my house, building a veranda and cementing the floor. GiveDirectly has only done good to me.
What did you spend your second transfer on?
I spent my second transfer to purchase an ox, solar, paid for weeding my ground nuts and I have not yet spent UGX 400,000 but I intend to spent it for my grandchild's education and buying foodstuffs.

Through this support, I was able to buy construction materials that I am going to use for plastering and cementing the floor of my house. Before receiving this transfer, I didn't have enough money to buy construction materials to complete my house.
Describe the moment when you received your money. How did you feel?
The moment I received my money, I was overwhelmed by joy because I have never had such an amount of money in my life.
What did you spend your first transfer on?
I spent my first transfer to purchase bricks, sand and aggregate for plastering and cementing the floor of my house. Furthermore, I bought a mattress and utensils. I have not yet spent UGX 700,000 but I am planning to spend it for paying construction labor and buying food.

What does receiving this money mean to you?
I have grandchildren I am taking care of in my home. So, when I receive this money, I will use part of the money to pay for their school fees. I will also buy oxen to help in ploughing agricultural land because I have been hiring them from other people. These will help me to save money that I have been using for hiring oxen and put it into my current small business of brewing local beverages hence improving on my household income. Besides all that I will also seek proper medical care because I'm ill but had no sufficient funds to get proper treatment.
What is the happiest part of your day?
The happiest part of my day is in the afternoon. This is usually the time my illness does not disturb me because it finds that the sun is out that cools some pain in me.
What is the biggest hardship you've faced in your life?
The biggest hardship I have faced in my life is the recurring illness that occassionally puts me down. I develop chest and back pain which limits me from doing much work like fully participating in selling my local brew and this affects my income.
