How is your life different than it would have been if you never received the transfer?
My new goal is to advance my farming practices. I have a piece of land to till but I do not have the seeds to plant in it. I intend to sell some of the assets that I own and use them to buy the seeds and other farm inputs to be used in it. Once I am done, this will bring about positive change in my life and that of my family.
In your opinion, what does GiveDirectly do well, and what does it not do well?
In my opinion GveDirectly does well by offering aid in form of cash. The aid that we receive gives us all an equal opportunity to spend the money in the way that we think is best for all of us and we all get to be satisfied with what we do with the money. This is so because of the unconditionality aspect which to me encourages more leople to ppartate.e cash aid that offered each person an opportunity to choose what to spend on
What did you spend your most recent transfer(s) on?
I used KES 32000 to buy a water tank and used the remaining amount to buy food and clothes for my other family members. For a long time, we had to travel for long distances in search of water from rivers and streams. This was time consuming and very exhaustive as well. I am glad that we now have a water tank that will help us collect rain waters and safe ourselves from the hustle of travelling for long distances in search of water.

Describe the moment when you received your money. How did you feel?
I had gone to the neighbouring village to visit my relative who was not feeling well. Suddenly I had my phone ringing, Upon checking, I saw a Mpesa message showing that I had received a sum of KES 55,000 from Segovia technology. Since the name was not familiar, I decided not to share the news with anyone but rather went back home. On reaching home I showed the message to my son who confirmed that the money was from GiveDirectly. I was so overwhelmed with joy, I was also relieved because I knew that the goals that I had identified would be fulfilled.
Describe the biggest difference in your daily life since you started receiving payments from GiveDirectly.
I am glad that my daily life is different, this is well evident because I no longer frequent the stream like before in search of water. I am happy and grateful that I was able to accomplish this goal in a short period, unlike before where I was unable to achieve it due to financial constraints. Secondly, I have enough foodstuff in the house to last us for a longer period. Indeed our lives have been uplifted and impacted positively, thus, we are forever grateful for the support.
What did you spend your most recent transfer(s) on?
Buying a water tank has been my biggest goal. This is because the stream is far away, yet I am no longer energetic enough to fetch water from the stream due to old age and health issues. Thus upon receiving my transfer I used KES 32,000 in purchasing a water tank. I then used KES in buying a bag of maize, then finally I used the remaining amount on clothes and other household items. I am so relieved that I was able to purchase a tank that I had longed to have, though I was incapable due to financial constraints since I depend on farming which is no longer profitable due to climatic change.

What does receiving this money mean to you?
Receiving this money will enable me to complete the house that I had started to construct. This has been my biggest goal in life because the house that I live in does not give me comfort in terms of space. I plan to use KES 30000 to complete the windows and the floor and the remaining amount used to buy food for my family.
What is the happiest part of your day?
I was very happy when GiveDirectly came to our area this new year to enroll us in this program because all the plans that I have will be achieved.
What is the biggest hardship you've faced in your life?
The major challenge that we face is a shortage of food due to the continuous drought that affects our area. It does not allow us to do any meaningful farming and the food that we get from our farm is not sufficient for my family.
