What do you plan to do with the cash transfer?
We have always relied on agriculture since way back. So about 90% of this money will be directed towards the purchase of agricultural materials like maize seeds, pesticides and fertilizer. We can't lie that we will start a business. Actually this will be like a top up because as it is we have already started the farming process so the funds from your organisation will be like a very needed bonus to help us have the needed assurance that we will be okay in all the sections involved in farming this season. To this the spouse agreed with a clap whilst nodding his head.
What is the happiest part of your day?
With proper rains we harvest and sell our farm produce yearly. This year our happiness came in when we were able to realize 57 bags of maize weighing 50 kgs each back in April. We were grateful to God for this knowing that we have food and from this will sell some to find money for other household needs.
What is the biggest hardship you've faced in your life?
As you can see we are an old couple and we are both weak and tired. We have number of challenges but currently we are mostly concerned about the condition of our house. As you can see it collapsed on one side behind there so we are still trying to find funds and rebuild that part. This is weighing heavily on us. The other hurdle for us is scarcity of safe water. Like I mentioned, with old age I am unable to travel and fetch water which is about a kilometre down this valley. We fetch water from the stream down there, she said pointing to the east side of her house. This water is untreated and contains germs and even though we drink it we are always worried it would bring us diseases like cholera which can even be fatal in the end.
